Neat and works very well as intended. Easy to use with proper training. Sized well, wish it had one size smaller. Overall a pretty good value for money vs local.

All sizes are NOT correct, ½" fid opening for rope is maybe ⅜". Same goes for all other fids; all are severely undersized. Tubes are drilled TOO shallow! ½" fid is 1" or less in depth; other fids are even more shallow. The ½" fid is also pointlessly too-long.I stuff rope down inside a fid at least 2+ inches, when I bury rope-tails inside 16 strand hollow braid polyethylene …not happening with these! These require TAPE to hold rope inside a fid, then hope for the best and end up with worse. The "Pusher" is a total joke.I'm returning them. I wouldn't try modifying. I hoped for METAL to replace my cheap PLASTIC fid collection. These are aluminum but useless. I was a PRIME member and Amazon lied about shipping & delivery time, too ...I'm not PRIME anymore.

This is a well made set of splicing FIDs. I like the fact that there are 5 sizes and a pusher. Enough to meet most household needs. My only concern is there are no instruction included. This is not really a problem as there are plenty of resources out there to be had from other sources. It is harder than it looks to do but worth the effort.

I picked these up to outdoor gear (i.e. hammock suspension systems, winch cables, etc.) out of Amsteel rope. As noted by other reviewers, the dimensions of all of the fids are nowhere close to what is shown on the Amazon page. I can live with that because I'll simply select the fid needed for the size rope I'm working with, regardless of size stamped on the fid. What I can't live with is the fact that the hollowed end of each of the fids is so shallow that it makes it nearly impossible to pass the fid through the slice without the rope coming out. As they come shipped they are of very little value. The only reason I gave these 2 stars instead of 1 is due to the fact that I have a small hobby machine shop and I can chuck the fids up in the lathe and extend the hollowed out portion deeper into the fid and create a useable tool. The material is good and the design is a great start to make something that actually works. That said, unless you have the equipment, time, and ability to make these in to something useable I would look elsewhere.

Using these to make my own slings for tree work. Well, trying to. These are great for smaller ropes. They're sturdy and easy to use. They work great and slide through when you use the right braided rope. I would recommend these for someone looking for a smaller fid set.

This may be the most negative review I have written, out of over 2500 on Amazon alone. The aluminum material is good, and the general design sound, but these are wrongly sized and machined—the external diameter too small and the internal bore is of grossly insufficient depth. They are basically unusable: a problem for making custom ropes at shop or home, but potentially dangerous if required for emergency repairs in the field, such as repairing a winch lead in the field. A plastic version is better for a variety of sizes, while the Factor 55 Fast Fid is ideal for repair of synthetic winch lines and costs no more than this ineffectual package.

I am learning this technique of rope braiding and so I am far from an expert. It does what I wanted to, but my braids came out far from perfect so I would trust the other reviewers more than mine. As I get better at this, I will circle back on this review if anything changes.

These are perfect for splicing double braid - I didn't need them, but just to try them I made some new dock lines from an old hank I had in storage. I also found them useful for back-splicing standard 3 strand line as well. The fids fit individual strands well and the smooth exterior glides through the work easily.Recommended!
