This came boxed in a vacuum-sealed plastic bag of sorts, and as soon as I began cutting through the wrapping, it began to "inflate," as promised on the packing slip. It is NOT lightweight or small. We bought the Full Size (Double) for our standard futon frame, and I must say, it is really thick and well-cushioned. As it was still expanding with the atmosphere, you could hear/feel the coil springs that are in the center of the materials. After it has had about 2-3 days of adjusting outside the packaging now, it is quite comfortable to lay on briefly. I'm not quite to the 72 hours of letting it "rest" and expand yet, so I haven't laid down on it for more than a few seconds. We also haven't tried to fold it into the seating position, but I have serious doubts that it will do so without a fight. It's almost too plush and thick for being used as a seat for too long - it seems more fit to be left as a bed. If so, it is likely going to be a very popular mattress for our guest bedroom, as it seems to be made for sleeping comfort vs. sitting around on. That's fine for our purposes, but be aware that it will fight you at first if you use it as a couch. It also has a bit of a new odor that the packaging states is normal for a while until it breathes more. It isn't obnoxious or off-putting, so we don't mind. It smells like new fabric/material of any kind. The cover is a nice color of blue (our selection) and soft to the touch - not scratchy. I think we will be very happy with this purchase. I'll update the review after we have some time spent sleeping/sitting on it after the break-in period is over.

Unwrapped and left on the floor to puff up for a few days, and it did puff up quite a bit in those two days. (There was a blob joke or two as I recall). I replaced a thinner mattress and this wants to fight a bit to fold into the sitting futon shape at first, but it's stopped trying to spring out after a few more days of acclimation. The sleeping couch area is less wide then the mattress it replaced due to the thickness of this mattress (a problem if you are a person who needs a wide area to lay on and for us, a bit on the tight side for two reasonable sized folks laying side by side.) but my goodness this thing is very comfortable. a bit bouncy and a bit firm. Very comfortable. We've covered it with a blanket but the cover that it comes in is strong. I did not feel like it was going to rip when I picked it up to move it around just grabbing into the cloth, there are no handles or straps sewn in. IT DOES NOT HAVE any strange chemical smell. Some of the things you buy on line have odd smells or textures. This is is fine.

Ok 5 months in used daily. I have been sleeping on it in the couch configuration. Comfortable at first, no longer goes back to original size. Higher in center where no one sits. Want a cheap comfortable replacement on cheap metal futon(lab puppy destroyed 2 couches and a chair and 2 futon mattresses ) I say buy it awesome for price!

The mattress arrived very fast. This mattress is heavy....very heavy duty (absolutely not your average futon mattress). Comfort wise, it's actually really comfortable and cozy in both seat and bed position. My 17 year old son insisted on a futon as a bed for his newly renovated room, which I thought was a horrible idea. He is happy though and is very comfortable. I haven't noticed any smells or problems with the fabric. It looks and feels high quality. It's actually so big and heavy that it's a bit hard to get into the seat position in the frame we got. It takes some work, but it looks good and he has no complaints so far. Would recommend for sure. We have had futons in the past and the mattresses were average. This one is fantastic in comparison.

We use our futon as our sofa and for occasional sleeping. This mattress is extra comfortable. While I don’t usually purchase a tufted futon matting made an exception for this and glad I did. The blue color I’d more of a royal blue but it works, plus I can add a futon cover if desired

The mattress keeps sliding down the frame and hangs over the front bottom edge so it is hard to sit on it as a sofa. It doesn’t stay folded where are you want it and continues to migrate down despite continued repositioning of this heavy mattress.We tried to return it immediately but it is too big, heavy, and thick so it cost more to return than the refund. So we are stuck with this.

This is my second futon purchase in the past 6 months. The first one cost $350 from another online retailer that starts with WAY. It was the worst piece of trash I ever paid that amount for. So I think if I pay a bit more I will get something way better. This mattress is already wearing down in the area I sit most. This mattress is less than 3 months old. I am not overweight and I am at work full time, so I don’t use it as much as some other people would. Between this mattress and the overpriced frame; I’m $800 +$350 in the hole and don’t have what I was expecting to get. Buyer Beware!!! Also, someone please tell me what is the magic price for reasonable quality and comfort??

When I first got it I was amazed at how comfortable it was. My friends too were also quite impressed. It could be good as a cheap alternative for a spare bedroom. However, six months down the road, being used as our primary couch, this matress quickly became lumpy or flat, depending on where you sit.
