As a homeowner, I've always aimed for the perfect lawn, and the Scotts Turf Builder THICK'R LAWN Grass Seed, Fertilizer, and Soil Improver has made that goal achievable. This 40 lbs. bag covers an impressive 4,000 sq. ft., offering a comprehensive solution for lawn care that's hard to beat.First, what sets this product apart is its multifunctionality. It combines grass seed, fertilizer, and soil improver all in one, simplifying the lawn care process. It's suitable for both sunny and shaded areas, making it versatile for various parts of your lawn. The grass seed component is impressive. It's a mix of premium grass varieties that have thrived in my yard, filling in patches and thin spots, creating a lush, green carpet of grass. I was thrilled to see how quickly the grass began to grow and how much thicker and healthier it looked within a few weeks. The fertilizer and soil improver are equally essential. They nourish existing grass and provide a rich foundation for new growth. My lawn's color improved noticeably, and it became more resilient to foot traffic and environmental stressors.Application is straightforward, thanks to the detailed instructions on the bag. I used a spreader, and it distributed the product evenly. Watering it in afterward helps activate the seeds and nutrients effectively.I appreciate that this product is backed by Scotts, a trusted name in lawn care. It's clear they've invested in research and development to create a formula that works wonders. While the initial cost might seem higher than just grass seed alone, the convenience and results it delivers are well worth it.In summary, Scotts Turf Builder THICK'R LAWN is a game-changer for anyone seeking a thick, healthy lawn. It's efficient, easy to use, and delivers remarkable results. If you're looking to transform your lawn, whether in the sun or shade, this product is the answer you've been waiting for. I couldn't be happier with the results, and I highly recommend it to all lawn enthusiasts.

Standard for all my reviews: When reviewing products, I always remain objective and honest about the product or service. I always review with information that I feel others would like to know about the product as I always assume what I'm writing will influence for or against the purchase. I always try to go above and beyond surface characteristics and input into quality, value and application. Most importantly, I will always end the review with an answer as to whether I'd purchase the product again which I believe is the most critical question pertaining to the item. To manufacturers: Want me to review your items, just let me know!I read a lot of reviews from people frustrated with their grass seed. Not all seed or products are the same in how they are planted, ongoing care, etc. Some include built in mulch, fertilizers, etc. while others are just seed. This 3 in 1 contains the seed, fertilizer and a soil improver. Most contain the first two items and I'm a bit skeptical about the "soil improver" though they claim in creates a healthier root system. In my history and experience, while that may be true, most other variables are over-arching before things like a soil improver, meaning that your native soil, depth of soil, drainage and watering habits will determine how well your grass grows and looks. But alas, it has all three for your seeding enjoyment. But to all of you who struggle with using seed, you MUST prepare properly. If you expect to simply walk around with a spreader and end up with a lawn like they show in the pictures, or successfully have a thick patch where a bald spot was, it's likely not going to happen. Between the rain washing seed away, sun baking the seed and the birds thanking you for putting their food on the ground instead of in a feeder where it's so crowded, your results may not be what you expect. Clear the area, if you can, of any debris, dead grass (Thatch), etc. Then be sure to break up or loosen the ground/soil with a garden tool or the like to a depth of an inch or so. Then you can apply your seed. For best results, then cover with a peat, soil, mulch or something to get the seed out of view and away from the sun. Lightly water to keep moist for the next 10-14 days to allow the seeds to germinate and take root.As for this product, I've had success and no success on multiple spots but generally the success has been good. I don't seem to get quite the germination I have from other products in the past but good enough that I can leave it a 4-star rating. I just focus far more on soil prep to make sure I have a good foundation. I will say that this bag will last longer as it doesn't contain the mulch which also functions like the top layer and fertilizer, it only contains the seed, fertilizer and soil improver. So it gets my "good not great" rating meaning that I would purchase it again but would use another product that I've found more effective. It's solid, not great.

I had a large tree and the stump removed in mid-November and the stump removal guy recommended I plant seed anyway even that late in the season. After reviewing a lot of different ones on here, I went with this brand. I was not disappointed. I raked up the soil so it was loose, then spread a good, thick layer of this seed and raked it in. I didn't use anything on top like straw or hay and watered it daily for 2 weeks. Frankly I wasn't expecting it to grow at all. Within that 2 weeks even in the cold weather, I had great coverage of the huge bald area where the tree was removed. Great seed!

I started using Thick'r about five years ago and really enjoyed it. The more and more I've gotten into lawn care the more I've realized that there are better ways of getting this result (buying soil amendments like lime and biochar separately, better grass seed, organic fertilizer like Milorganite).Biggest issue I have is the rye blend they use with the grass seed. It looks great but cannot handle midwest summers. Product works and the grass does thicken up - great for beginners - but I'm giving it 3 stars as you can make a similar blend at a much more cost effective price point that simply works better.

For the money this is a great product, especially for overseeding. I needed to put down some topsoil in some parts of my yard which grass just has significant problems growing in due to the clay that makes up the majority of the soil where I live.By using this product I'm starting to see the little grasses pop-up from underneath the top-soil and my hope is they will be able to become more established with the overall make up of the different soils. So far so good, grass is picky, but it seems to be taking well for now!
