I like the fact that this is compact and portable. I did follow the recommendations to fix a string to it, so that the components don’t separate from one another in the water.

Be sure to put water in the bottom BEFORE you inflate the top! Not the best float in the world, but quite possibly the best float per dollar spent! Used for SCUBA and snorkeling. Paid for itself in a day or two (if you consider what I would have spent to rent a float). Kept me safe for a week-long trip, then nicely stored away for the next trip.

On the plus side, the float and flag are pretty compact and don't add much weight to a suitcase for travel purposes (which is what I wanted it for). It's also good that it has a protective outer plastic skirt around the float where it's most likely to rub against rocks when using near a shoreline. Beyond that, to really be usable, it requires a bit of modification. First, as others have noted, there is a potential for the flag to pop out of the float,so it can be easily lost. To remedy this, I drilled a small hole in the "flagpole" just below the flag and ran some fishing line through it and tied it at both ends to the plastic eye at the bottom of the float. Second, the flag does not have any stiffeners in it, so unless it's breezy, it pretty much hangs and looks more like a red and white pipe than a flag (not very visible to boat traffic). To fix that issue, I got a piece of rigid aquarium airline tubing and made a hole in the flagpole at the lower edge of the flag that the tubing could be inserted in. I then glued a small piece of flexible air tubing on the upper outer corner of the flag aligned diagonally with the hole in the flagpole. When I use the flag, I insert the rigid piece of tubing in the flexible tube and the hole in the flagpole and it holds the flag out pretty well. When I'm done using it, I simply detach the tubing and roll it up in the flag to pack it up. Finally, depending on how much wave action and wind there is where you are using the float, it may or may not stay upright, regardless of how much you fill the base of it. When it needs extra stability, I tie an extra weight to the plastic eye on the bottom of the float. In a pinch, I found that a plastic water bottle filled with water or sand (better) works pretty good. So, the bottom line on this is if you need something compact and light weight for travel and don't mind going through a little work to make it truly functional for use when snorkeling or diving, it's not too bad for the price. But if you want a dive flag for relatively frequent use that you're not going to be sticking in a suitcase, I'd recommend going with one with a fixed weight and a float that doesn't require inflation.

Filled it with air and water as directed and it worked well, even with a bit of a breeze stayed mostly upright as I towed it around while snorkeling. Some have complained about difficulty filling with water from a lake, I found you just shouldn't inflate the air portion completely, you then submerge the water bladder section and kind of pump it under water until no bubbles come out, then after finally topping off the air section you will have it 100% full of air and water so it works perfect. I suppose the flag is kind of short but that probably helps it stay upright.

This is a great idea that needs at least one safety modification. I did away with the banner saying a diver was below because in order to read it the boater would have to get within 10 feet of the float. I replaced it with four white stripes . making it similar to a dive flag. The float appears to be Vinyl so I used Vinyl paint from Home Depot. If you do likewise read the cleaning instructions on the can and make sure the masking tape it tight. Blow the float up as tight as you can get it. Chances are you will only be able to find Vinyl paint in a spray can. That's O.K. just spray it into a container and use a paint brush to apply. It is quick drying. .Last time I checked a boater on a river had to stay 100 feet from a dive flag and on all other waters 300 feet. Since the only thing you need to operate a boat in many states is a down payment don't expect them to know about that. Hope my modifications helps..

Works well. It's hard to get the water in the bottom compartment to keep it upright, but the flag is very secure and it takes about 20 seconds if that to inflate. Definitely worth having the peace of mind while snorkeling in a busy area.

Does not stay upright. the Base whole to add water or sand is to tight to do much with. I placed 2 Heavy Stainless Steel D-Rings on the bottum and it float would still not stay upright.
