I had a pair of these hydrants installed a couple of years ago, to replace outdoor spigots that had a stop and waste valve underground (pictured). You shut it off in the fall and opened the valve in the spring. During the winter I was using one of the new hydrants and broke the head when I left a hose adapter connected and it froze. A rookie mistake. The outlet has to be open so the water can drain underground. This replacement was easy to install. The only other issue is it's kind of an all or nothing proposition when you turn it on. It's hard to adjust to a trickle for deep watering. Last year I made some manifolds using PVC and connected regular hose bibs to it. They worked great, and the hydrant handles was in the on position all season.

My son decided to break off our handle, but this was a very simple replacement by just releasing the plunger rod, unscrewing the damaged head, screwing the new head on, and then reattaching the plunger rod.

This hydrant is missing it's internal parts. I wouldn't have bought it only to have to turn around and spend $$ to complete it. Not interested in becoming a hydrant repair expert.
