I was using a sponge before when soldering. This is much better for getting the tip clean.

I've been doing hobby electronics for a number of years, and always used a damp sponge for cleaning the solder tip. If you do this, you're probably aware the tip gets cooled every time you clean it this way. Finally got the brass tip cleaner and it works wonders. I loaded the bottom down with a bunch of pennies, and crammed about 3 little wads of brass into the cavity and it works great. Not sure why it took me so long to get one of these but I'm glad I did. It does a very effective job at cleaning the tip with minimal heat loss.

It’s a well priced soldering tip cleaner, but as a few others have mentioned, it’s a bit on the lighter side. Being “lightweight†is not a good feature for something like this - in my opinion. However, that’s easy to fix. I just took a flat rock/pebble from my back yard, dropped it into the container, and voila! Problem solved. I also don’t love the feet that come with it. I had some small rubber feet that I stuck on mine, and they grip the surface it’s on much better.Overall, it’s a great value. I’m only a hobbyist, and only solder once in a blue moon, so this does the trick for me. It comes with 5 of those brass coil things, which is way more than I’ll need. The few “modifications†I needed to make to it required very little effort. It’s definitely worth what you pay.

Along with using Tip Tinner, this is a quick and easy way to keep the tip performing at its best. During a soldering session, I use this multiple times.

Works great. Does a great job of keeping the solder gun tip clean regardless of solder gun temp. Used 6-8 times so far and the coiled brass is still in great shape. A few dabs in this, a touch of flux, and solder away! 5/5 - can't beat this product for the price, will save you lots of time!

I'm use to using sponges with my soldering irons. I decided to give this a try and love it. Not only does it do the job very well without significantly changing the tip temperature, but it's faster. It came well packaged, with extra pads for the future. If you do a lot of soldering, you won't go wrong with this very reasonably priced cleaner!

I'm writing this review again because my first review was removed for reasons unknown. I ordered this set but received copper cleaning wire. Since the product cannot be returned, I created a replacement to receive the same material. There wasn't one brass unit as advertised. Hope this helps.
