The Starrett S117PC set includes five center punches with a round shank and an assortment of 1/16", 5/64", 3/32", 1/8", and 5/32" diameter tapered points. The set comes with a red plastic case for storage. Each punch is made from hardened and tempered steel, which provides wear resistance and strength. The round shanks are knurled for grip. Center punches make small dimple marks in a workpiece to help guide a drill bit. Manual center punches have a metal shank with a point and are typically tapped with a ball-peen hammer to mark the material. Automatic center punches have an internal spring mechanism that enables them to mark the material without using a hammer, leaving one hand free for steadying the work. The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology, and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company, founded in 1880, is headquartered in Athol, MA.

These are very well made great handy tools that can be use for far more then just center punching. There are decent cheaper options and if you’re really going to beat them up. I personally work in the more finish end of the industry these days so these make sense for me and will last a life time

The quality on these is amazing. Creates deeper marks with less effort. I can’t speak on their resistance to mushrooming as I prefer to use a brass hammer for this exact reason. A little small for my big hands, but I like the saved space in my box as I’m mobile.

I just used these to center punch a broken hydraulic chrome rod inside a knuckle on a CAT machine. I was able to get a good center punch and drill a straight hole. Inserted extractor. Parts came out with ease. These are great to use if your a full time technician or anyone who needs a center hole. Would buy again!

I had the B model of this set, I got it as a freebie in a box of made-in-usa drill bits like 30 years ago. That one little punch was my only center punch for 30 years, and I lost it the other day after moving the flagpole. I was heartbroken. Searched "Center Punch Made in USA" and two brands came up... I went with the same name I had before, only this time I got the set. It's the same punch. Same steel, rings exactly the same, feels the same. That punch had dimpled everything from drywall to aluminum to steel for 30 years and held up. I'm sure these will do as well.

These may be more expensive than 90% of other centre punches but after purchasing these based on the reputation of Starrett they became the highest quality tools I had up until that point. Beautifully crafted and finished they won't let you (or your great grandchildren) down. Useful to have different sizes. When I bought these I winced at the price but as soon as they arrived there was not one tiny smidgeon of regret. These will last 2 lifetimes.

If you need to do some center punching then look no further, these bad boys can center punch with the best of them, just the other day while needing to center punch some metal,to the rescue was the Starrett S117PC, i was center punching like a rabid golden gloves champion, it was exhausting but satisfying. Love them so much that i sleep with under my pillow, it pisses the wife off, but she will have to accept the affirmation i have for this punch set.
