About this item

  • Hex Nut with free-spinning washer for use in low-load assemblies
  • Zinc Plated Steel fasteners are suitable where strength and corrosion resistance are primary considerations
  • Drive system is a hexagon-shaped head
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads
  • Ensure a lasting hold for any project

Also known as Keps and K-lock nuts, these Hex Nuts include a free-spinning washer, for low-load assemblies. Hex drive systems are driven with a wrench.
Steels are designated by a 4 number SAE Steel grade.  The first two digits indicate the primary materials used to form the steel.  The last 2 digits identify the percentage of carbon for the alloy (in hundredths).  The steel used in these fasteners has a tensile strength ranging from 100,000 to 150,000 psi (pounds per square inch).  Zinc Plating helps to prevent corrosion.
A threaded fastener's size name includes information about the major external diameter, followed by the threads per inch, which indicates if it is coarse or fine. Coarse threads are better when working with brittle materials; they are sturdier and are easier to thread and unthread compared to fine. Coarse threading also allows for thicker coatings and platings.

It looks like the picture and fits my 4-40 screws. So yay, right? Shipped and arrived promptly.

Amazon asked me for a review of this! OK, it's a #4-40 nut with a lock washer attached just like the picture shows. They're small and shiny and they fit #4-40 screws. What more do you need to know? Oh, and the Small Parts guys who supplied them shipped them to me as soon as Amazon processed the order. In fact, the Small Parts supplier seems to be a good source for all things in the small mounting hardware category. I've picked up over 6 different screws/nuts from them in the past month. Very quick service and the hardware was as the picture indicted.

Description calls these a "Hex Nut with free-spinning washer", aka Keps nuts, and that's what arrived. But they've put a product image of a standard hex nut, which is not what they are. Oddly my order history shows a thumbnail photo of the correct style of nut with an integral star washer, which isn't in the product listing now or when the order is placed.Four stars for being as described and at an excellent price (so I don't feel bad about gambling on it), but lost a star for having a photo of the wrong product.

I liked that they do the job and seem consistent from nut to nut
