The Swanson Try Square is very close to being dead nuts square, but not quite there. When I received it, some epoxy? or glue? had drained out of the wood/steel joint and oozed across the handle. I had to scrape it off, then sand the handle with fine abrasive to remove the stain (the handle color remained the same after sanding). The brass trim was not clean, and looked like some of the adhesive was smeared on it by dirty hands. Also, the blade had a "born in hell" sticker that wrapped around the blade to cover both sides. The sticker and residue was much harder to remove than the adhesive on the handle. After I cleaned the try square up, it looks very nice. The SS Blade has clean crisp markings and is accurately placed to measure from the handle out the blade. The blade is held in place with three brass rivets, and some adhesive. I rated it 4 stars because it does look like a quality tool, I think I will still grab my 6 inch Stanley Square first to test small joints, but the Swanson Try Square looks better.

This is a tool I don't use often but, when needed, proves invaluable in the layout of any design. I've used Tri-Squares for more than 6 decades, The Swanson 8" Tri-Square rates right up with the best of them but at a fraction of the price. It is an exceptional value and essential for any craftsman or serious wood worker. The shaped, Hardwood handle with brass fittings is a bonus!

Item is out of square 1/4†in 8†so if you want your lumber cut out of sqaure this piece of junk is for you.

This square replaces a really (really) old one. It is quite pretty, but the real thing, accuracy, is also top notch. My reference square (Starrett) confirmed the squareness, & the grid is acceptable, within 1/64 over the 7 inch length on the outside scale. I make craftsman furniture & this square is just fine for daily use in my woodshop.

Almost had a heart attack when I dropped it. I've been using it for a day (wood hobby shop) and value it more than some of my power tools. I love the brass.
