$12 for this retainer nut is insane, but I recommend anyone planning to replace the diverter in their Symmons Temptrol valve have one of these retainer nuts on hand. The retainer nuts are brass and can be difficult to remove, especially if you have hardwater buildup. The retainer is designed to accept a square wrench (SYMM Tool), but can easily round out, making it necessary to drill out, in which case it won't be able to be reinstalled. It's advisable you also invest in the SYMM Tool. The total cost of the SYMM Tool, diverter and this diverter retainer is still a lot less than the cost of a professional plumber.
