So far has worked perfectly. When I received it i tested under hot water at a faucet and was very fast and accurate.

I have a fancy digital thermometer for baking breads and testing meats, but I use this thermometer for making soap. Glass thermometers can break at soaping temperatures or with repeated use in lye, but this thing is great because no batteries are needed and it's practically unbreakable. I've dropped mine several times on a slate floor and haven't cracked the glass face yet! It has a nice, long shaft for different-sized pots, and unlike some thermometers of its kind, the part that grips the pot to hold it in place both moves readily along the shaft and stays put once placed where it needs to be. It would be great for candy making, too--but once used for soaping, buy another for food.

I used this thermometer twice for roasting some coffee in my home-roasting setup. Both times the thermometer read a temperature that should be a light roast but the coffee was burnt. Then I stuck the thermometer in a pot of boiling water to test its accuracy. Water here boils at 202 degrees F but the thermometer only read 190. So at 200 degrees it read 10 degrees low and at 400 degrees it read 20 degrees low. It's a thermometer, it has ONE job to do. Useless.

It works fairly well.. I had to do a boil test and adjust it when I first unboxed it. It allows for calibrating it, which is nice. If you use needle nose pliers to hold a small nut on the underside and turn the body of the thermometer, you can calibrate it to boiling water's temperature. It has worked great for me boiling milk to 180F for making yogurt. In all, it's a pretty good thermometer despite its quirks. My biggest complaint is the latch that keeps it on the side of a pot doesn't secure all that great. I end up leaning the latch against the pot's handle for better stability. I end up knocking the thermometer out of the pot all the time, which is annoying.. It would be nice if it stayed secured better when using it. It's like playing a game of operation where a wrong impact causes the thermometer to go flying out of the pot! Not 100% sure on its accuracy at lower temperatures near 100F, but it's consistent.

Works great, metal/glass, can easily calibrate with hex nut on back8 inch length is versatile, easy to read large display about 2 inch wide or soResponds well to temperature changes, I'm sure it would work great for candy, it works great in making yogurt where you have to cool the milk to a precise temperature before adding the bacteria

I bought this thermometer because the digital one I have seems to have problems with the immense heat needed to make walnut brittle. I am very happy with my purchase because the clip stays on the pot and does not move. I would buy this product again!
