Removing Pond Sludge and Debris Has Never Been So Easy

ClearVac being used in small watergarden

Controlled Cleaning Tool

A pond vacuum is not a shop vacuum, and it's not designed to be. A pond vacuum is designed to be a more controlled, steady cleaning tool, allowing you to clean your pond without harming your fish or disrupting the delicate aquatic habitat.

Remove Large Debris Before Vacuuming

The ClearVac is designed to remove sludge, muck, algae, and debris up to 3/8 of an inch, that’s about the size of a dime. Before using your vacuum, remove large leaves, twigs, and acorns with a pond net. The ClearVac pond vacuum also comes with a debris bag.

For Best Results

You will achieve optimal suction if you place the ClearVac at the same level as the water. Your intake and discharge hoses should remain fully extended, not coiled or kinked. When vacuuming, you will get the best results if you move the intake hose in a slow, uniform fashion.

FAQs

How big of leaves can the vacuum remove?

The ClearVac pond vacuum is designed to remove pond muck, leaves, algae, and debris up to 3/8" - about the size of a dime. The vacuum is ideal for small to medium-sized debris such as small pine needles and small leaves. Large leaves, twigs, acorns, and other large items should be removed with a pond net prior to vacuuming.

What do I do with the water I vacuum out?

Do not return water from the discharge hose back to the pond. Returning the water will only return the excess nutrients, muck, and small debris. The discharge hose and debris bag can be safely run to nearby landscape or garden beds. The excess nutrients removed from the pond act as an excellent fertilizer for other plants.

Where do I place my ClearVac?

For best results, position the ClearVac at or near water level. You will achieve optimal suction if the unit is placed at the same level as the water.

How much water will I lose with each use?

You should expect about a 10-25% loss of water. A pond vacuum is designed to be a controlled cleaning tool, so that you can clean your pond without disrupting your fish or the aquatic habitat, and without draining your entire pond.

Can I use an extension cord with the pond vacuum?

Yes, the ClearVac can be used with an extension cord, but it MUST be a 10 or 12-gauge outdoor-rated extension cord no longer than 50 feet.

This pond vacuum did an excellent job of cleaning the muck from my pond. I was somewhat skeptical after reading reviews but I had to get my pond clean so I went ahead and ordered it. I have purchased The Pond Guy products before and have always been satisfied. Their pond vac worked like a charm. The only issue I had was with the filter bag not allowing much water to flow through, but I had so much muck in my pond that the bag quickly got filled with muck. I removed the bag and just let the mucky water drain onto my lawn. The suction was so good that it started sucking up the small rocks I have on the bottom. I changed nozzles to the large object barrier nozzle and only the smallest of pebbles got sucked up. I would much rather have the good suction than worry about small rocks getting sucked up. Very happy with purchase and would buy again.

This vacuum cleaner is pretty nice, we had lot's of gunk on the bottom of the pool after spring pollen season. With this vacuum cleaner we were able to sparkling clean our pool. The cleaner itself is not super convenient to use. Lot's of hoses to move around, but it got the work done.

This was what i needed to service my pond. It works so well than i only have to do this every 4 months. not inexpensive but well built and worth it

The drain line keep getting disconnected. It needs some kind of locks. I ended up put the vacuum far off the yard and not able to use the drain line

Initially the clearvac pond vacuum worked fine. it did stop up frequently. now a year later, it will vacuum for a minute (or so) then quit working. no suction at all. I have cleared/cleaned all hoses, checked the vacuum to see if it's clogged, rinsed out the filters, nothing helps. I see all the positive reviews. I am disappointed I spend almost $400 for a high rated vacuum and it only worked a year.

I love this thing, I’ve tried so many other options only to return them. Is vacuum has the power to pull muck out the bottom of my six foot deep pond. The gravel guard is awesome. I love the ability to control the suction with the thumb valve because when I vacuum my top pond I can control to flow. The continuous flow without auto shut off gets the job done. My Dad said you get what you pay for and it’s worth the price. Durable tubing and well built. I really happy with this product

This unit should have had a 2" inlet hose, instead of a very restricted 1 1/4" inlet hose. Could not handle any leaf matter. Big design flaw! Before I was going to send this unit back, I hooked up the inlet side to my 2" shop vac hose . . . surprisingly, it fit into the tank inlet (with a slight looseness, which turned out to be OK). I connected two 2"x8' shop vac hoses (with a coupling I made from a shop vac wand section) and voilà, it performed like a champ, sucking up leaves and muck efficiently. The 2" brush attachment did a far superior job than any other attachment, with the bristles acting to sweep debris into the vacuum column within the hose. I have decided to keep this unit--flaws and all--because it allows continuous discharge that simplifies the process, as opposed to the shop vac, which when full, shuts down. Pond Guy, you've got a good product but this design flaw makes it a loser for all-around efficiency. Change your design and you will have a big winner. And when you do and make millions from your revised unit, please send me my finders-fee of $20,000.00!
