I love this tool for brake line work - flares consistently well, grabs the hard line very securely, I've never worried about the line slipping in the tool when I'm trying to make a flare. Size and portability is great; I can work in very constrained spaces easily. This is much nicer to use than the typical cheap auto store flaring sets.

I went through multiple flare tools for doing my brake lines and non of them could put out consistent results. This is pretty good for the money and works great for it's intended purpose. Super easy to use and makes decent quality flares.

If you are using this for copper nickel brake line you are going to have to experiment a little, especially if you use 3/16th. This tool was designed for steel brake lines and probably works great on those (I haven't tried it), but you will have some wrinkling issues with your flares if you don't adjust the amount of brake line you insert into the tool. The instructions say to insert the brake line until it touches the depth gauge, then tighten down the clamp. If you are using 3/16" line you will need to back away from the depth gauge almost 1/8" before making your flare, otherwise it will wrinkle. The problem with this is when you back away then your flare loses surface area and may not seal properly. In the end I was unable to make a decent flare with this tool with 3/16" copper nickel line. The 1/4" tool actually works very well on copper nickel line if you back away about 1/16" from the depth gauge. I believe this is because the 1/4" line is more sturdy due to its increased size over 3/16". It also helps to chamfer the ID and OD edges of your brake line so it slides better in the crimping die.Overall with some experimenting on some scrap copper nickel line you will be able to get a nice flare with 1/4" line, but 3/16" is going to be a problem.

Takes a bit of practice. I found that beveling the brake line helped and do not tighten the set bolt. Just set it gently with your fingers. Great flares. Only does one size line
