Product Description

product

  • TMC2208 ste ppen motor driver adopts stealthChop2 Mute technoloey which reduces motor noise to the point of silence at low ve lecities to ensunes noisele ss ope ration. The sound when printing around 55d8.You will mot feel noisy and anoyed when you are sleeping.
  • In the complex interference environment, the signal is still stably transmltted and has good compatlbillty
  • Comparing to other stepper driver through the test,TMC2208 silent stepper driver generate lower heat also it has a large-area cooling position to lower the temperature when drive is working.
  • TMC2208 driver needs extra fan to cool it, otherwise the high temperature may destroy it.
  • Do not connect the motor when measuring the voltage, otherwise it is easy to burn the driver.Power should be connected, do not just connect USB power supply.

I bought these as backups/to use for my second extruder/hotend on my printer. I made the mistake of only buying 5 BTT TMC2208's when I was at micro center, not thinking I would be adding this entire extra hotend in the next 2 months. These arrived over night, and once I soldered the correct pad underneath for UART on my board, they worked great! Color coding is different than BTT step sticks, but as long as you pay attention you'll be fine. The heat sinks are actually much nicer/larger than the ones included with BTT step sticks, and they come with 3M adhesive on them as well! Boards appear to be cheaper/cut way less cleanly than BTT, but for the price difference, and not having to wait 4 whole days for delivery, I'll take it!

The drivers worked great right out of the box. After using some DRV8825 drivers, these were completely silent. Only drawback is that the vref adjustment is on the under side, so I had to set up, power on, measure vref, turn off, adjust, repeat until I got it set where I needed it. Not a huge issue but just a bit inconvenient.

I used these for an animatronic Halloween decoration and took a while to get going. Could not get them to function until I found one schematic that grounded the Enable pin. Once I did that, I was off to the races. The pot setting had to be adjusted for my steppers, they were skipping steps and noisy. Had to adjust using jumper wires from the socket because the pot is on the bottom of the circuit..... (really?). That is my biggest complaint, where the pot is located. One fried out right away, I suppose this is why they ship 5 with the set. Once you get them adjusted and operational, they are quiet and smooth. I will purchase these again if needed.

It works for what I needed and haven't had an issues. But two things to note: (1) They include a Philips screwdriver and it takes a common slotted screwdriver to adjust (2) The voltage right out of the package is set way too high and the steppers get really hot. So, adjust right away and have a very small flat blade screw driver on hand.

Wish I had noticed the voltage adjustment screw is on the BOTTOM before purchasing. You must have these installed with power going to them in order to properly adjust the voltage. How are you supposed to do that when the adjustment is on the same side that the pins are on?
