  • 【About Adblue AUS32/DEF Refratometer】The DEF Refractometer is a portable precision optical instrument used for measuring the diesel exhaust fluid concentration.
  • 【Easy to Operate】Only 3 steps to know your DEF condition in a quick and easy way: calibrate the refractometer to 0, then place a liquid sample to be tested on the main prism and close the light plate, finally check the readings through the eyepiece under light source.
  • 【Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC)】An automatic temperature compensation range from 10~30℃ will make result more accurate. As long as the ambient temperature of prism does not change, the sample size is so small that it will quickly come to the same temperature as the refractometer. If ambient temperature changes significantly then you will need to rezero the refractometer with water.
  • 【Optical Theory of the Refratometer】Drip 2-3 drops of liquid sample on the prism, you can get accurate readings. The light passing through it is bent, and the more concentrated the liquid the more the light will bend.
  • 【Durable and easy to use & carry 】The main part of Urea Concentration Refractometer is made of aluminum alloy, light but durable; a carrying case is included to protect your refractometer from dirt and damage; no battery is needed.

Product Description

DEF Refractometer
DEF Refractometer

Why you must have it?

EPA regulations require all diesel engines manufactured on or after January 1, 2010 to meet lowered NOX emissions standards. Most heavy duty engine (Class 7-8 trucks) manufacturers, have chosen to equip SCR, like Detroit Diesel (DD13, DD15, and DD16 models), Cummins (ISX line), PACCAR, and Volvo/Mack. SCR-equipped engines require the weekly addition of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF, a kind of urea solution) to enable the process, and to ensure the SCR system work properly, operators must ensure the DEF concentration in their vehicle being at about 32.5 percentage.

This refractometer is designed for measuring the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) concentration, makes it very quick and easy to test the quality of DEF, just need a few drops of the fluid and a few seconds, you can get the result.

DEF Refractometer

ATC Function

An automatic temperature compensation range from 10~30℃ will make result more accurate. As long as the ambient temperature of prism does not change, the sample size is so small that it will quickly come to the same temperature as the refractometer. If ambient temperature changes significantly then you will need to rezero the refractometer with water.

Product does exactly what it claims to do. Very easy to use, calibrate and perform testing. An fairly inexpensive tool that gives you a piece of mind regarding DEF being okay or not.

I have tested newly purchased DEF. The result was a little off. Then calibrated with distilled water and re-tested. The result was much close to 32.5% that is the expected dilution. I did not try to re-calibrate and re-test again at this point. Overall, I think, it was a test of the tool more that the test of the DEF fluid. There are many discussion threads about DEF quality. The overwhelming point is that DEF liquid in a sealed container cannot be anything but the exact formulation by the whatever is the standard API designation. This tool will simply confirm that you got what you paid for when buying DEF.Not sure how helpful it may be for a fleet maintenance program, but for a home mechanic this tool is nice to have. It probably will not make any "revelations" about the quality of DEF fluid purchased at Walmart or another retail outlet as long as you know that the product is fresh and the container was sealed when you bought it.

Found this easy to use and easy to read the results. A must for confirming proper DEF concentrations. Comes with a nice padded plastic box with two Pipettes. However, you may need something much longer to reach into you DEF tank. I use a coat hanger with a small loop at the end to reach into my DEF tank. Easily collects the necessary couple of drops needed for the Refractometer.
