Product Description

A man wearing TrailHeads Zip Mitts has his left mitten unzipped to use his phone.

Our winter running mittens for men are ready for adventures on the slopes or the streets. Wear them as ski mittens, hiking mittens, running mittens, and more.

The zipper opening on the back of the hand allows you to free your fingers without having to remove your mitten. Need to send a quick text? Adjust the zipper on your ski jacket? Fish your keys out of your pocket? No problem. You can enjoy the warmth of winter mittens without sacrificing dexterity.

These men’s mittens have Primaloft insulation to keep you warm and cozy all winter. We recommend these cold weather mittens for men for temperatures 10F+. Please note that these are primarily designed as mittens for running or for use during other aerobic activities so our temperature recommendations are made with a moderate activity level in mind.

Our men’s winter mittens are made with recycled materials. The mitten shell is 92% recycled polyester and the insulation is 70% recycled polyester.

The zipper has a silver reflective accent to improve your visibility and help you stay safe and seen on the roads. The polyurethane finish on the palm improves grip so your devices won’t slip through your hands.

Our men’s running mittens also offer an extended cuff to protect your wrists from the cold. It’s long enough to tuck into your jacket sleeve. Velcro on the wrist allows you to adjust the fit. On the cuff a pull-loop makes it easier to pull on your mittens.

These thick mittens for men are available in two sizes. Check out our size chart in the images to find the size that’s best for you. For anyone who needs a smaller size we do offer a women’s version of this style. The proper care for these mittens is to machine wash cold on a delicate cycle and lay flat to dry.

Enjoy all your winter sports with our Men’s Zip Mitts.

These convertible mitts are wonderful! They are also sized appropriately so I can pull them on and take them off without getting stuck on my wrist. I love that you can unzip the zipper and cool off your hands. If indeed they do get too warm…which they occasionally have on even extremely cold days with liners. Extremely flexible. Taking your fingers out through the zippered area also facilitates using phones and pulling things out of my running pack.

This is the first time I’ve ever owned a pair of mittens, and they are a good upgrade as my fingers were cold in fingered gloves, and it was hard for me to get a hand-warmer inside them. However, I ran in them in 10° weather and my thumb still got cold. Additionally, my hands started to sweat inside the glove. I guess that means they were very warm..Would I purchase again… Yes!!

A zipper over the hand of these mittens give them unique flexibility. Left closed, the glove is delightfully toasty. Opened up, they become convenient for using fingers on an iPhone or other devices and the ventilate the glove. I think they’re great. One warning, the Med/Large size is quite large, good for wearing gloves underneath but, otherwise, large. I’m going to add a smaller set to my glove/mitten collection.

These TrailHeads mittens are absolutely warm! However, I gave only three stars due to a quality failure on one of the zippers. I'm 73 years old, run five miles every morning before sunup, and tend to have cold hands. Here is the rest of my review:Pros:Primaloft insulation really works! These mittens are warmer in the low 20's than Carhartt's Flip It mittens or Bessteven Winter Convertible mittens are in the middle 40's.Zippered back is a great idea - if it would only work as intended (see Cons, below).Cons:Zipper is too hard to pull open or shut. I must hold the cuff of the mitten in my teeth to zip shut, or the tip of the mitten in my teeth to zip open. And even then, the zipper sometimes does not want to work. Possibly a larger, more robust zipper would be a good idea. One zipper obviously had a quality failure. While zipping on only my second run, the zipper separated after being zipped shut.I have large hands, so am using the medium/large mitten. When temps are in the low 20's I wear two layers of long sleeve shirts with thumb notches. The cuffs of the mittens are too small to pull over my wrists and the two layers of running shirts. Since these are cold weather gloves, one would think the cuffs would be adequately sized to easily fit over multiple shirt layers. The tether to pull the gloves on is very helpful, but not adequate if long sleeved shirts are worn. The cuff does not need to be this snug since the cuff also has a very good adjustable velcro strap. As a note, the long cuffs are good for tucking up under the sleeves of a running jacket when the temps are in the middle teens or below, or a raincoat. Just don't make the cuff's elastic so tight.

I just wore these mitts for the first time today and they're awesome! I went 6.5 miles and the temp was around 20F. I didn't have my hands inside them long before I opened the zippers. These gloves are very warm. I have no doubt they'll handle even lower temps with no problem! Perfect for Midwest winter running.**Update 2023**After using these mittens for the entire winter last year they're still awesome! I used them with a thin pair of glove liners when the temps dropped. I was out in -10F temps. Even colder with wind chill. Bottom line is that my hands were the last thing I worried about when running in cold temps.I don't use these for anything other than running so they don't get much wear and tear. The only wear you can see is the reflective material around the zipper coming off. Not a big deal. The glove is fine. I expect them to last for several more years... or until I die???... unless I do something dumb with them.**Update 4/26/2024**Another winter of use and I still love these things! Still no wear other than a little of the reflective material around the zipper. Again, I only wear these when I run. They look basically new. If you run in the cold you need these!

The last few years I've decided to ramp up my running as I approach 50, in an attempt to stay in decent shape as my body starts to slow down. Part of this ramping up has been to make a concerted effort to run through the winter months. I'm in Seattle, so it gets chilly but not freezing - but the past few years I've found that my weak point is my fingers, as they get bitterly cold and take about 30 minutes post-run (including a long hot shower) for the feeling to return in my fingers.I've tried a variety of running gloves, including the Nathan's convertible mitten/gloves, but nothing really helped once the outside temp hit about 40. These mittens have been the one thing that work and allow me to end my runs without completely numb fingers. The zippers work if I misjudge and end up too hot, though I haven't really used them to get at my phone (because honestly, taking the mittens off is just as easy). They are machine washable, unlike most other mittens that are this warm.So if you're younger than, say, 35, it's possible that these gloves are totally overkill for you. But for me they've been a life saver, and I'm glad I found them after about trying about four different, successively warmer pairs of running gloves. They've allowed me to keep up a really steady stream of miles regardless of the weather - hoping to be in great shape when spring hits and running is a little more fun!

I wanted warm mittens with a pull down flap to allow me to use my fingers. I thought that the length-wise zip would do. Indeed it does, but it's not quite so good as a pull down flap. With these mittens it is really just as easy to slip them off to use your fingers, then put them back on again, which defeats the object of the length-wise zip. But I have given them 4 stars because they are warm, wind proof, and waterproof for standard rainfall. I use them for winter walking, if I am out all day in pouring rain they do let rain in.

Really like the gloves for running. The zipper is easy to use, sometimes gets stuck on the seam when closing but if you arch your hand it helps minimize. Your hands will sweat but easy to open the zipper a bit for ventilation. The pull straps are a nice feature. Came in two sizes and I have medium hands, glad I sized down as gloves are more than big enough.

Really like this mitt, although have not tested in - 21 type weather (yet), it does appears to be quite warm. The zipper in the hand makes it very easy to cool hands off or the hand access to things without removing the glozes entirely. Today I ran in -15 and the mitts were as warm as ever. Will definitley buy another pair.
