Your cart is empty.Trinity College Concertinas are handcrafted instruments and authentic reproductions of the instruments introduced in the early 19th century in England and Germany. Trinity College offers both of the two major types-the Anglo and the English models. The English style of concertina operates on a "unisonoric" system where each push and pull of the bellows gives the same note when any given key is held down. The English System alternates the notes of the scale between two hands, enabling the execution of rapid melodies. The English System style concertina is quite versatile and can be used for many styles of folkdance music as well as Classical music in the hands of a virtuoso. The player holds each side of the instrument with the attached thumb strap-as opposed to the Anglo style instrument where the straps cover the entire hand.

My concertina arrived and I promptly retrieved the package from my doorstep. I pickes it up and it soinded like a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle. Opened the box, removeed the concertina and pieces were loose and rattling around inside. Tried to play and over half the notes would not sound. Apparently most of the reeds broke loose and were lost inside. I couldn't even collapse the bellows due to reeds getting stuck between folds.

Came timely and as expected. All buttons worked on both draw and push. Beautiful instrument. The bellows are a little stiff at first, but still fun to play and with a little time the bellows should work a little easier. Only 6 folds so shouldn't take that long to wear in. There are more expensive 48 button boxes out there, but for the price, the Trinity College 2248 can't be beat. The thumb straps are adjustable and very comfortable. The keys are pressed easily(even for pinky). Occasionally I will have one stick but I think it's more because of the newness rather than workmanship. buttons are micro-adjustable in that, if one starts sticking, simply recenter the button and problem solved. I'm not very familiar with the English vs Anglo view but I can see where the English would be easier as the buttons are the same note on D & P. I look forward to spending many a starry night by the campfire or on the boat regaling the wife with the odd shanty. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. It would have been hard for me otherwise to own a 48-button concertina. Thank you

Do not buy this! I can’t stress enough how poor quality this is.2 things happened within 15 minutes of playing this thing.1) reed got stuck (‘e’ on right hand)2) upon trying to loosen and tighten screw around thumb grip, the screw and mount cane completely out of the concertina!!! Also extremely hard to even get a grip on in the first place.The sound is OK, but not really even close to an intermediate concertina. Do not buy this! You’re probably better off with a cheaper one.

When this arrived it was not a concertina, but a cheap bathroom light fixture. When I tried to exchange it Amazon said the concertina was not available, so I returned it for a refund. Ridiculous.

So far, I haven't had any of the key sticking issues others reported. I received this as a gift about a week ago, and have been playing with it. I do wish it came with at least a minimal instruction booklet, at least something telling you what the different keys on it are. It came with just the instrument and the bag. I'm new to the concertina, so I'm sure it doesn't sound as great as a much pricier instrument, but I'm enjoying it. The bellows are a bit stiff, but another reviewer said they'll loosen up over time. I haven't had to replace reeds yet, so I don't know how easy/difficult that will be when the time comes. I have the 30 key version. I think it'll be a nice instrument on which to learn, and I can invest in more expensive versions if I get good enough at it to be worth it. I'm purchasing an instruction book through Amazon, as I couldn't find any good videos on the net from which to learn, so we'll see how I do with it!
