I am actually impressed by how well this little file worked on my rough fingers. Though I'm no climber, I work with paracord and often get rough spots on my fingers from burning and twisting off the ends with my bare fingers. I know there are silicone thimbles and such, but I find it just a lot easier to complete the task bare handed and I barely notice the burn much at this point. The real problem I had with finishing my paracord this way was that my thumb and pointer finger would get very rough and calloused to the point that they would catch on fabrics I worked with like satin or fine silk, so smoothing them out was an issue.I've used pumice stones and they worked alright, but were not that great, and normal files never seemed to do a lot... these though? They actually worked phenomenally for smoothing my fingers. I could see it working even dry, but after washing my hands for bit in warm water I used this file and it really worked, the dead skin coming off completely and smoothing out to leave my fingertips soft again. This worked way better than any pumice stone or glass file I've bought, and it even comes with some replacements for the sandpaper, which I haven't needed to switch out yet, but I'm glad it's there.I don't know what it is about the grit of these, but they work great on skin, and I'd highly recommend them if you have issues with finger callouses from any source, not just sports.Long story short? They work. It's nothing fancy, but I'm glad not to have to keep a pumice stone on the sink any longer.

It is my fault that this isn't what I thought it was. I just saw "file" and was so desperately in need of a new nail file that that is what I thought it was. Didn't realize that a "hand and finger file" wasn't just a nail file and that that was actually a different thing.HOWEVER, this is a really nice file! Quality, well-made. I like that it has a carrying case and extra file pads. I wish the case were a bit more compact (without so much extra space). And I REALLY REALLY wish the seller had other replacement pads available (even in different grits) so that this could more readily be used as a nail file as well. This is a great size. I love that it is wood. And the smoother side of this can still be used for nails (that are really rough and need a good lot of filing down) but a higher grit would still be needed to make this a full fledged nail file. Maybe the seller will read this and add that as an option, making this more appealing to an even wider audience.If you need a really rough nail file OR a hand file, this is a nice product for filing and carrying said file.

The wooden nail file is shorter than I expected. It is a pretty simple thing. At the current price, I wouldn't buy it.I expect that when it comes time to change the sand paper that it will take some work to clean the wood off so that the new piece will receive good adhesion.Note to the Reader: My reviews are written strictly from the perspective of helping potential customers make an informed decision as to whether they should invest their finite money and time in this product. I ordered this file for my boyfriend, who recently started climbing. He likes the simplicity of the product and was impressed by its compact size, which allows it to easily fit onto his chalk bag. It is also nice that it offers both fine and coarse grits on opposite sides, as well as extra replacement pads. However, where this product falls short is in its inability to precisely reach calluses that form on the top of the palm, close to the base of the fingers. If the file had a tapered end, this would greatly improve its useability in small areas of the hand that require more precise attention.

I’ve been climbing about 1.5 years. Since I’ve started I’ve always had terrible hangers, blisters and other cuts and scrapes on my hand. I’ve heard of finger files in the past, but had never used one. After climbing a few days consecutively, my hands were in terrible shape. I found that my blisters and hangers were getting worse because I wasn’t treating them.This finger file is pretty straight forward, but effective. Since using it, I’ve noticed my hands are healing a bit quicker, and I don’t have the roughness or cuts and scrapes like I used to before. As a result of filing my cuts and scrapes down, they’re healing quicker and not worsening when climbing.The set also comes with additional adhesive sandpaper for when the initial file/sandpaper deteriorates. I’d totally recommend this item if you’re an avid climber that’s sick of scratchy, cut up, blistered hands and palms.
