I bought this to transfer zoysia grass plugs from one area of my lawn to another where I've had trouble growing grass. It worked great. Although the instructions suggested watering the lawn first, I didn't because we've had a pretty damp spring here in the Northeast. The zoysia was a little tough to cut through compared to regular grass, but it still only took less than 30 seconds per plug once I got the hang of it. (The photo shows the "bad" grass plugs about to be put in the holes where I took out the zoysia.)One tip: Some of the plugs wouldn't come out of the ground at first; the tool came out, but the plug stayed in. The trick is to keep rotating the tool around a few times until you see the surface of the grass inside the tool turning WITH the tool. Then, it will lift right out.I did between 10-15 plugs in about 15 minutes from start to finish, with part of that time spent figuring out where to take the plugs out, etc. I highly recommend the tool. It's well-built, seems like it will last forever, and is easy to assemble and use.

I bought this to plant tulip & daffodil bulbs, to keep from having to bend over and dig multiple holes. It took me around 30 minutes to plant 50 bulbs using this, pretty good for a fat little grandma. It pulled a plug of dirt out, and after I inserted the bulbs (right-side up this time), I was able to plop the dirt right back into the hole. It helped a lot.

It MIGHT be ok for digging bulbs, but it is worthless for digging and transplanting grass plugs. Poorly made, heavy, clunky, and looks like it was designed by a 5 year old. Save your money and look elswhere.

Great product. A little heavy but easy use. Sturdy to dig even packed soil.

There are better brands than this. For sod plugs it did not work at all.

The concept is great anc the function is fine whe the dirt is moist to wet. The cup is a little larger than I expected but if you can puncture the earth it works.

An absolutely great product. Am using it to remove my female dog’s burned pee spots in my lawn and it works great. Water the lawn and next day, set the depth you want to cut, step on the tool’s step, rotate to that depth, and remove the plug. Do the same thing on purchased sod (or cut plugs from a side area of your lawn) and transplant. Works as advertised. My spotted lawn is all green again. Sprayed the area with a urine-odor neutralizer and-no more yellow spots!

Used this to plant 205 bulbs. Easy to put together, but sometimes need to tighten up the bolts. Definitely need to have damp ground to keep the hole from collapsing. Drop the plug on top of the bulb and tamp down to cover the bulb.
