Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I connected the adapter but no image on my Monitor.

There are several different reasons why video is not showing

  • Your Monitor is the Thunderbolt version of Apple Cinema Display. You can check my finding the small icon on the white cable coming from your monitor. If showing a small Thunderbolt our adapter will not work, if showing a small square with two lines on the side our adapter will work as expected because your monitor is the Mini DisplayPort version of the Apple Cinema Display.
  • Please make sure your apple monitor is connected to power and operational.

Q: Why I can not control the brightness, Audio, and the iSight Camera on my Apple Cinema Display?

  • You must connect the USB-A Cable from your Apple Cinema Display to your Laptop to be able to control brightness, audio, and iSight Camera.

Q: I am only getting 4K 30Hz when using the UPTab Adapter. How can I get 4K 60Hz?

There are several different reasons why a 4K display would be limited to 4K 30Hz using our adapter. We would recommend first checking:

  • The USB C output port must support DP1.4 ALT compliant to get 4K @ 60Hz.
  • System specifications to ensure that the internal graphics processor can support 4K @ 60Hz and that the output port on the system/GPU can support 4K @ 60Hz.

Q: Can I use Dual Monitor Setup with your Adapter?

Yes! You can purchase an additional adapter and connect it to your Laptop's second Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Port which will give you the option to connect a second Monitor.

Purchased in a pinch to attach my M3Pro to my old LED Cinema Display. Worked perfectly right off the bat. Also worked with a Lenovo Win11 Machine. Quite pleased as shelling out for a new monitor was not part of the plan. Build quality of the adapter is good.

Was trying to find an adapter for Apple LED Cinema Display to work with a 13” iPad Air M2 (2024) and this worked perfectly. The iPad recognizes it right away.

I recently purchased a new 16-inch Macbook Pro (Nov 23 Apple M3 Pro 36 GB). I quickly learned that my old(er) 27" Apple LED Cinema Display (circa 2015) did not connect to my new laptop. After doing some digging, there were not a lot of solutions - at least solutions that didn't result in video / audio issues and other problems. I wanted to be able to seamlessly work across both displays as I always have! I came across the UPTab USB C to Mini DisplayPort Adapter via an article. So happy that I did! It was literally "plug and play" and I was back in business. This adapter is worth it's weight in gold and for a great price as well! Very highly recommend if you're in a similar situation as I WAS!

This thing is fantastic. I plugged in my 2016 MacBook Pro into a 2010, 27" Apple display and ZING! It just worked! I did not have to adjust any settings or download anything. It's an old monitor but the display is beautiful so why not get more years of use out of it? The dongle feels very sturdy and all the plugs fit tight. I like that this also has the pass-through USB which allows me to keep the laptop plugged in (no battery drain) and frees up a precious USB C port on my 2-port Mac. Love it -- very happy.

I recently upgraded my MacBookPro for a newer 2019 model which has four USB Type C ports. My old MacBookPro had a MiniDisplay port with which I ran an Apple Cinema HD 23" DVI monitor with an Apple DVI-to-MiniDisplay adaptor. I assumed that an Apple MiniDisplay-USB Type C adaptor would work with the new MBPro. It did not.So I tried the CableCreation USB Type C to DVI adaptor which claims compatibility with the 2019 MBPro. It did not work. Then I tried the Benfei USB Type C to DVI adapter which also claims compatibility with the new MBPro. It did not work.Next I tried the UPTab USB Type C to MiniDisplay adaptor thinking that it would work with my Apple DVI-MiniDisplay adaptor. It did not. Finally, I tried the "Club 3D CAC-1510-A USB C to Dual Link DVI-D Adapter HDCP Off" adaptor. IT WORKS!!! You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/CAC-1510-Adapter-Displays-3840x2160-2560x1600/dp/B08B7FSVTL/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Club+3D+CAC-1510&qid=1615575897&sr=8-3Note that Club makes two models, one with "HDCP Off" that supports the Apple Cinema monitor, and one that has HDCP. The HDCP On model will not support the Apple Cinema.Thank you Amazon for offering free returns for devices that make false support claims. It is worth noting here that Apple does not provide an adaptor to support their own older, perfectly functional, DVI monitors.

Purchased to pair my Apple LED Cinema Display with a 15" M1 Macbook Pro and it worked perfectly. If you also want control of display brightness and use of the built-in iSight camera, then you also need to connect the monitor's USB cable to the laptop via a simple USB-A to USB-C adapter. I can also confirm that this method does not produce the red flickering during Zoom video calls that other adapters cause.

It worked ot of the box, interfacing mini display port flying lead to a USB-C port on my 2020 Apple Mini M1 running under Ventura 13.4. I use for video only display on the the Apple LED Cinema Display and output sound elsewhere. There are no visible artifacts using the default 2560x1440 resolution and the computer's Displays setting automatically defaulted 'Colour Profile' to 'LED Cinema Display'.

I went through four different adapters before I settled on this. And it worked straight away, at full resolution without me having to do anything.I have a Mac mini 2018 and an Apple 30" Cinema Display - the hardest thing was getting the two to connect together. I first went for the cheapest which failed, sent it back, ordered something more expensive which also failed and so on until this - this just worked. I didn't even have to connect an extra cable to the spare USB-C slot on the adapter.I highly recommend this.
