These are carbon Steel … which is the best TOOL steel and while these rust, I like the patina they develop and the fact that these are SUPERIOR to the stainless LOOP tools for trimming pottery. The loop tools you buy these days fall apart and become dull so quickly.These take some practice to use, but my ceramics students love them once they get the hang of it.FYI, for my personal purposes, I removed All of the black paint with a sandblaster which it makes it easier to patina, sharpen ( with a metal file) and oil them. Great Asian style pottery trimmer, awesome prices and as good or better than the expensive name brand.

I don't know if there's a quality control issue given some of the mixed comments but the tool I received is well made with nicely sharpened and even edges. It's comfortable enough to hold and yes, the metal is thinner - think can lid thin - but has been plenty strong for my trimming needs. There's definitely a learning curve using a tool like this vs. a loop trimmer but that's not the fault of the tool. Overall, a decent value for the price.

I love this trimming tool, it arrived very sharp and several months of use later it’s still going strong. Very versatile, lots of angles for different curves of the pot. It’s the tool I use for most of my trimming and I find it very fun to work with

Lots of edges to reach all the angles on my clay creations. Seems to hold it’s sharpness nicely.

This tool is so much better for trimming my pieces than the wire loop tool I've always used. It's also easily cleaned and appears that it will last forever.

This shaping tool for pottery is exactly what my wife wanted for her birthday on December 1st. Because of the storms in the US in November damaging the factory I was resigned to it becoming a Christmas present however, it was shopped ahead of schedule and arrived early. Many thanks, it was perfect.
