Operates at a passive set output and wattage. Does not increase or decrease output. Controller just turns it on and off to keep a temp you set. Designed for indoor use as it says. Without insulation you get about 10 deg increase at 76 deg room temp. You can increase heating at the mat to about 100 deg with minor insulation or coverings. Probably not capable enough for warming in cooler spots, say in a cold frame. FYI You can use a plastic bag around sensor for liquids.

i use these heat mates for my frogs and snakes that require low amounts of heat and they are perfect and keep them at a constant temperature or as constant as the air around them

I raise and sell compost worms. Due to the lower temps in our basement they need a bit of extra warmth to help them hatch quicker. I’ve purchased many bands and so far they all work well, this one included. The price point is great for four of them. There are three hooked up to a thermostat, the third is on another one with 2 other heat mats.To be honest I can’t tell a difference between these and any others, with the exception of the Vevor brand. The other has dimples and actually heats more evenly. For the price I don’t mind that they don’t heat perfectly evenly, but that would be different of using for seed starting. The cooler spots aren’t too far apart so would work for reptiles as well and maybe seed starting in larger pots, not plugs.Overall seems like it will last a while and isn’t too expensive for the mat or to run for the few hours a day they do.

I use these heat mats under my bins that contain my "Red Wigglers" compost worms and "European Night Crawlers" worms. The heat mats have kept the bins warm thru 2 winters and this will be the third. I do recommend.
