I forgot to shut the hydrant valve off this winter, and the water froze and cracked the head, so replacement was necessary. After researching the options, I decided upon this head assembly. It was easy to install, and works fine. It was much cheaper and easier than the alternative. As for the quality of the head, I assume that the metal is casted of the same material as the original, so I better remember to shut the valve off before freezing weather arrives. They do make more expensive hydrants, and the material may be able to handle freezing, but my hydrant is inexpensive, and it didn't handle freezing.

I had a blue hydrant to replace and this was not a direct replacement. First of all the clevis rod that came in pkg was smaller diameter, it would not screw into the coupling nut. I had to use the clevis rod from the old hydrant, which created new problems. Because I used old clevis rod, it would not fit through the hydrant head. I had to bore a larger diameter hole in the head so the rod would fit. I also had to use the old connector as the new one would not fit the rod. That made me have to use old linkage as the newer ones would not fit older parts properly. I’d give this a5 star, but it took some ingenuity to make this work. Not saying you will have same problem, but you had better be prepared to do some machining if it’s not a direct fit for your blue hydrant.

The item worked great and is made of heavy gauge cast. The only real downfall is you have to make sure you pipe and plunger inside is not bent at all. My plunger was bent and I had some problems using the new item. I should have bought the whole unit again but I did not want to have to dig it up. This item worked very well.

This might work if you are a plumbing pro with all kinds of experience in jury rigging. It is not a good quality mechanism, in my opinion. It is very difficult to adapt this to a different brand of hydrant.

Fit my blue Proplumber like a champ. Happy to find it and not replace my whole hydrant. I found a video on youtube sponsored by Proplumber on how to change out a head. I always just replaced the whole hydrant. What a moron.

I purchased this nearly one year ago to replace a hydrant that was leaking. However, the leaking hydrant STOPPED leaking, so I just held onto the "new" hydrant for when it was needed again. It was needed in early December. We started to install it, and the inner part that makes the whole thing work snapped in half!! (See the picture!) I know it's a year later, but a METAL PRODUCT that doesn't hold up to simple installation is a TERRIBLE product. Worse, the company wouldn't replace it or refund my money. I hope you don't have this kind of experience!! Learn from MY mistake! :(
