I purchased the Whirlaway 291 to replace my original Whirlaway garbage disposal that lasted 20 years. The advantages of this include; 1) low cost (compared to other disposals)... 2) smaller size under the sink (compared to other disposals, thereby allowing more space for other stuff under the sink)... 3) simple installation (based on supplied instructions and an on line video I found)... 4) this increased the horsepower from 1/3 HP to 1/2 HP (since 1/3 HP was adequate for the last 20 years higher HP in other disposals was not considered necessary)... 5) the Whirlaway is quiet.The two regrets I have are; !) I purchased a unit that has a plug. Since the original unit was hard wired from the wall switch into the disposal, I should have purchased a unit that required similar hard wiring. I had to install a plug-in receptacle (the same amount of work, however, it is not "code") 2) the original 20 year old disposal was replaced because the unit developed a leak. In retrospect the leak was probably due to failure of the plumbers putty used to seal at the sink. Replacement of the unit itself may not have been necessary because the old unit was still operating well.This was the first disposal I have ever replaced... I am not a "Handy Man". I am an Accountant. It took a couple hours of research, reading, examining of the unit, shopping for a plug-in and ultimate installation.

I had a 191 that came with the house since 1996. Lasted a long time. I wanted to make sure I had a direct fit, so there was no need to cut pipes and modify. The 291 that I got was a direct fit . It worked perfectly. The only issue that I came across was trying to hold it up and mount it. It was difficult to get the little tabs to line up and and mount to the bracket. I figured that a good workaround would be to get a small car jack and jack up the new disposal and it mounted up and twisted and locked right in.

I order this one . Was because it was what was installed . So didn't have to change anything. Last one lasted 13 years . Hope to get same from new one .

We replaced our broken Whirlaway with this one - same model as before.It took our plumber no time at all to install. We only grind vegetable scraps (no bones, no grapefruit rinds), so this seems fine.

Replaced old disposal with this one. The instructions were easy to follow. No real special tools required. Took me, a DIYer, about an hour to remove old pipes, install new, reconnect pipes. Amazed at how quiet it runs.

This was purchased to replace the exact same unit. It is a reliable budget model that serves the purpose. It is not a heavy duty one so has limitations on what it can 'chew up'. I bought it because it had done the job and I did not have to replace or change anything. I would buy this unit again if I needed one.
