This thing is awesome. I have a basic WEN lathe and this screwed right on and is very concentric. It holds great and is easy to work with it use it for polishing round metal objects and it performs that task perfectly. Zero regrets.Keep in mind this is pretty heavy and if your lathe is particularly small, you'll want to be aware of that. Otherwise this is perfect.

Does the job. Would be 5 stars, but when changing the position of grips there are points when they get a bit stuck. In other words, accuracy of manufacturing is a bit off.On the positive side, it is very easy to change the orientation of the grips. In all, I am OK with the chuck, all imperfections do not hinder the operation.

i had to purchase an adaptor since my lathe is 3/4 inch threads and not 1 inch but it attached ok and works well.

I have only used this chuck on two projects so far, one of which broke on the lathe (no fault of the chuck), and the second one turned out great. The second one (couldn't get the picture from my phone, sorry) is 12 inches tall and I was hollowing out the cup at the top of it. I discovered to my dismay that the base was not square, so when I first mounted it to the chuck it wobbled badly. I shimmed with electrical tape on the chuck, and was able to get it to where the wobble was about 1/16 of an inch, so the cup is very thin on one side, but at least it worked. I was frustrated at first because the workpiece (remember - 12 inches long, cedar) popped free of the jaws so easily no matter how hard I clamped them. Then I struck on the idea of wrapping the base of the piece in two layers of electrical tape, at which point the jaws clamped very well. I retightened every few minutes anyway, but there was never any give to the jaws. I am very pleased with this chuck.

No-frills, Works well and holds work firmly. Some reviews have mentioned the challenge of getting the jaws properly aligned when reconfiguring. I found a decent hack that helped me. Arrange the loose jaws according to the numbering and slide them into place on their tracks until they stop. Next, go to that junk drawer in your kitchen and grab 2-3 rubber bands and wrap them around all of the jaws as shown in the picture, then gently hand-turn the adjustment gauge on the base of the chuck. The consistent pressure from the rubber bands enables the jaws to engage simultaneously. I know, i know- you shouldn't need to so this… but for me, it’s a reasonable alternative to spending an extra $100 or $200…

First off, the jaws are "sticky" in that they get hung up. Second off, there are numbers stamped all over the place. The jaws are numberd 1-4 on the face, but they were stamped differently on the edge. Additionally, they were sent with jaw 1 on the chuck slot numbered 2, jaw 3 on the 4 slot, etc. There really should be instructions stating which order the jaws should be inserted when reversing them. I am a journeyman machinist and know how scroll jaws work. This is nuts! Also, there is an order to which way the jaws should be reinserted if you are turning them around, otherwise they won't be concintric. Seriousy, instructions!

I immediately got to using this as soon as it arrived. I was so excited. I'm using a ShopSmith in lathe orientation. I did have to order a coupler to mate the wood lathe chuck to the ShopSmith but I was ok with that. This chuck is a smaller chuck and works perfect for those smaller projects. I really like the even tension on the jaws and the ease of use. The jaws work perfect in both squeeze and spread to hold the work piece well. Overall a decent product for the price.
