I had never flared copper before, but went with this kit because it seemed to have everything and was a good deal. It worked well. It definitely helps to watch a few youtube videos, but I found this kit worked great.

Quality tool! I was worried about brackets bending or failing with regular use. These hold up great and do not feel like they will easily fail. I feel like this would be a great addition to any starter kit for someone getting into working on brake line repair or a/c work. Directions are quick and easy to follow, this is a great tool.

My year civic decided to use all bubble fittings. I only had a double flaring tool so I decided to get one that would work enough for fixing a few brake lines. All my lines were done using 3/16 steel lines.Pros:Successfully made 16 bubble flares with no leaks on steel brake linesDidn't break horribly enough to not continue usingCons:The tool that grabs the line slips on the pipe unless you crank the wing nuts down all the way.The wingnuts aren't threaded correctly and I eventually stripped the threads on one of the wingnuts (I replaced the wingnuts with M12 nuts and the tool worked even better this way)The tool digs into your hand painfully as you're cranking it down. I had to wrap the tool in a rag to keep it from hurting too muchTips:Spray any type of lubricant on the die that goes into the line that makes the bubble. It will release easier and crank down with less effort. (wd40/pb-blaster/oil/brake fluid?.. you get the idea)Be careful pulling the die off the newly made bubble flare, you can bend the tip if you're too aggressive and not pulling straight outMake sure the tool is clamped down all the way otherwise it will slip and you will end up with a failed joint.Replace the wingnuts with M12 nuts and use a small ratchet to crank down the tool, your hands will thank you for that.If I used copper nickel tubing, it might have been easier in hindsight. Still if I made 16 bubble flares on 3/16 steel lines, I'm sure you can make them on copper nickel even easier. I already had a roll of steel line otherwise I would have bought the copper nickel stuffAt this price point, great for someone at home to repair a line once in a while.. I would invest in something more ergonomic if I was doing this professionally.

Did the job but the metal is weak and the tip bent. Probably would work fine with copper lines but for steel it needs to stronger. Needs a reamer and line cutter. For the price it’s hard to beat. It did the job but it had to do a lot of flares, I would buy something stronger. Worked for what I needed to do and got the job done but don’t know if it would hold up if had do more than a few lines. Still cheaper than having to pay someone to do it but disappointed it didn’t hold up better.

For the price point this is an awesome tool. The tolerances on this tool where more than I expected at this price. The dyes proved to be very hard Steel I use the 3/16 die to double flare brake line and really pushed it to the Limit as far as tightening . I was able to flare the hard steel lines I know Chrysler Town & Country with ease. They were the plastic coated steel lines so I did have to shave off the plastic coating about an inch up for each connection in order to get a solid grip on the line in the 3/16 hole . I expect to be able to use this for at least a dozen more jobs. I was hoping it would just get me through one job. If you're the average do it yourself mechanic and you need to do one or two jobs this is your tool without question. You cannot go into the break business with this tool you have to spend a lot more money. But it will definitely get the job done!

I should have looked for the old man's flaring tool hidden in the hording mess that is his garage. It made perfect double flares every single time. No matter how many times I tried to use this, the dies never created a circle even close to being a circle when it was pressed closed.....!!! It does not center over the tubing and pushes the die to one side or the other, creating a bad double flare that is oval.... By the time I got around to using it on copper tubing, I missed the return window by a week..... It makes ok single flares... Bah.....Update - Edit. So I had to spice in a short portion of new 3/8ths line to replace a bad one. The flare attempts ate up valuable inches. The double flaring die kept on crushing the copper tubing, or creating a lopsided oval. I had to resort to getting a new line. The Home Depot 3/8ths line must be of surprisingly better quality than the line set copper tubing. In the above pictures, the better tubing is on the left and the cheap tubing is on the right. One shot and done with the good tubing with double flares and not a single good double flare on the cheap tubing. The flare tool doesn't sit square and centered on the vise and the flaring die doesn't sit nicely on top of the tubing. The old mans flaring tool that is 40 years old can flare anything no matter how you place it in the flaring vise (not square, off center) every flare came out perfect because the flaring tool and die pressed it into shape no matter what it looked like - regardless of the tube quality. This tool is very finicky and you have to pay attention... the die sits wobbly on the tube and slides around as you try and seat it and you have to back it on and off in order to ensure it is centered. The fact that the press is not centered doesn't help either. The last picture is the single flare. I resorted to a single flare on the crappy copper and a Flare Tite gasket to ensure it wouldn't leak under high pressure.

Got me out of my fix. Get a couple connectors and nuts the right size, a roll of copper-nickel break line and a buttload of break fluid, go fix your blown brakes.
