I bought this MacBook Pro 2016, last May as a refurbished computer. I was not aware that 2016 and 2017's had a problem with screen failure. The cable that attaches the screen to the the motherboard is built into the screen and the motherboard piece is also connected and soldered to the board. There is a clip-in connection at the hinge. They designed the screen side of the cable too short, and it fails after a couple of years of opening and closing the computer. That happened to mine.I bought this replacement because it seemed to have fewer complaints about non working cameras, not lining up right etc. Also, it came with the tools needed to do the work. The screen works fine, camera works, no issues. It is not clear if they adopted the new longer cable, but it seems longer than the one I removed. The removal is tedious, but straight forward. the difficulty comes from the number of and size of the screws you have to remove. The back casing is easy to remove, plenty of YouTube videos on it. The internal screws are insanely tiny and numerous. For instance, the wifi antenna has 12 tiny screws, so small they look like specks. I had to use a headlamp along with all the lights on to see them. It could have been done with six screws. They are so delicate that I did not strip one of them, I twisted the head off it by accident.I used a white paper mat, with patches made from double stick tape to keep track of the screws and screw drivers.Removing the old screen and installing the new screen is straight forward following the videos. But it is even harder and more tedious to put the screws in their holes and tightening them.Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it was dicey. I did not see the cable lock on the connection cable, because it was so tiny. it was only after putting it all back together that I found out about it.Starting up the computer the screen came up fine, but the computer said there was no battery.I did all the usual things and then started watching all the videos over and over. One of them said to be sure to snap down the cable lock after reinserting the cable.I opened it up and disconnected the battery cable, which is a slight wisp of plastic with hair thin copper wires, which you have to slip into a tiny little slit. And there was a hair thin line which was the lock. I pressed it down and felt it lock in place. I then loosened the screw which connects the battery to the system and tightened it up again for good measure. This time the screen came up and the battery was back. Putting the back, back on the case is also a challenge. there are clips on the top near thee hinges, and in the middle. I strugled with getting the top clips to allow me to align the back correctly, but I got there. So, I like the product, it works and the price is reasonable. Having a shop do this would cost over $500.00 and they would not be over charging. I was able to save an investment, for a reasonable price and learned a few things. Also, the packaging is excellent. Since I plan on selling the old screen on eBay for parts, I have the perfect shipping container.

This model computer had the dreaded flex gate issue where the flex cable for the backlight slowly splits in half internally. I have to say this screen replacement worked FLAWLESSLY. Absolutely amazing screen and everything works as it should. Camera is excellent, no missing pixels, and brightness is fully adjustable. I attribute the bad reviews to people installing this screen into models it wasn’t meant to be installed onto. If you have the A1706, this is your screen. Mine did absolutely amazing. Only difference is the new screen is slightly more textured than the original, not an issue for me. Also the little tool set was great. The magnetic screwdriver really helped, although I’d recommend having your own set just so you know you have the right bits.

Just installed. Be careful not to strip the screws, they are very delicate torque on the original equipment; also place the pieces in order so when putting back it is straight forward as some of the screws look very similar in length and size. The screen works! The computer booted up, this is great so I do not have to pay $500 for apple to repair a 7-year-old laptop with a new screen.Great for $200. This is not as good as the original, color is a bit off more green/blue and not as bright. The hinges right now make a sound in one position when closing them down, maybe they will get a bit better over time. Totally fair for the price!Good luck with your repair!

Got A2338 one for a MacBook Pro 13" M1 screen replacement. Build and fit was great. Brightness was all there. Nice packing - well protected. The screwdriver you included was solid metal tool - not some cheap plastic stuff.

The camera quality isn't the same as the OEM version and it comes off similar to a 720p camera. Even if I use great lighting, the improvement is minimal. The display quality is very similar and I'm able to achieve similar brightness. The hinges feel great and the install went smoothly. They do include a nice set of extra tools that I didn't use. The packaging was great but the tape job could be better. It looks like someone tried to open my box but I'm unsure if its due to poor shipping. I recommend this screen but be warned about the camera if that's important to you.

bought this screen at end of may 2022 and by august 2023 i started to notice monitor wouldn't stay open at certain angles and loose when closing it. By the end of november the hinges completely failed. Now i'm not able to use my computer unless i have the back of the monitor leaning up against something. This was an expensive item it should not have issues this early. Also, the brightness and resolution is not like apple.

Received item and it was properly packaged. Some screens I get are just wrapped in bubble wrap. This item was packed like it was just manufactured off a product line. Took me about 25 minutes to replace. I’m a seasoned hardware engineer. The hard part about this model is removing/putting back the wifi antenna to disconnect the screen. Everthing else is all about the tiny tiny screws. 5 stars for the packaging alone.

the screen seems to work just fine! But the provided tools are definitely made out of Chinese-ium because the torx bits practically disintegrated after only a few screws and I wasn’t able to finish the job until I ordered a $10 MacBook tool set to finish the job. Good screen but definitely get different tools, you will regret not doing so.
