Product Description

How does an airlock work?

  • mason jars
  • carboys
  • food grade buckets

  1. Remove the cap and the protective foam insert. Discard the insert. Fill the inside of the airlock 1/2 way with water.
  2. Put the cap back on and insert the tip of the airlock into the mason jar lid, bucket lid, carboy lid, etc. Make sure there is a tight seal.
    1. Shamless plug - We also sell a set of 4, specially-designed mason jar lids with airlocks for fermenting activities involving mason jars...
  3. Gasses are released during the fermentation process. You will see bubbles forming and escaping through the water in the airlock
  4. Airlocks prevent oxygen from entering the ferments. Oxygen will ruin the fermentation process.
  5. Every now and then, remove the airlock to "burp" the ferment, check on your progress and release pressure (this step may not be required depending on your project).

The holes in the top are smaller than my old airlock, which is good because I doubt fruit flies can get thru. I hate seeing those little demons floating in my airlock.I will buy these again.

Product feels like quality plastic. These are just as sturdy as all of my other 3 piece airlocks but were a fraction of the cost. The product is packaged very well as each airlock has a small piece of foam inside to keep the parts from rattling and potentially cracking during shipping or storage. I've used 3 of the 6 so far without issues. All 3 fit inside of my stoppers and grommets without issue and were easy to clean. Highly recommend.

OK I was going to leave a basic hey this product is great, they work and the cost per unit is the best. However, I saw a few comments that blew my mind and they rated this product poorly for no real reason other then the product didn't do something they expected it to do when this product or any similar product was ever made to. In no way are the lids made to keep out fruit fly's that the job of the water in the air lock. The caps are to keep larger bugs out that can swim through water, nor can the holes get much smaller with risking air being able to be released. Next, these are not meant to be used on wine bottles?!?!? they are to be used with stoppers/bungs on carboys and bucket fermenter's. Lastly, they are made of hard plastic, idk what cheep hard plastic is but they don't get any better as far as plastic goes. Thank you my rant is over...

Work well but they are large. I used it as the basis for a bubble counter. Didn't work as well as I'd have liked it to.
