Our new house has the mailbox built into a brick pedestal out on the street, with no means of having a flag on it to let the mailman know there was outgoing mail. After talking to our mailman, he suggested something like this. A quick search of Amazon and I found this item. It's a little smaller than I expected, but we just stick it to the face of our mailbox, the mailman knows to look for it, and he sticks it back inside when he picks up the outgoing mail. Simple solution.

This is helpful for the mailbox I bought with no flag, but it wasn't sucessful until we asked the mailman where it should be placed.

It looks nice.But...it won't stick to my mailbox. I can see there's a magnet in there, but it's not strong enough to sitck to the mailbox through the plastic in the back. It's also a lot smaller than I thought it would be.

Sticks to my mailbox, and it is easily moved to the inside of the mailbox when I don't have anything to send out. I have a brick mailbox, so this is a great substitute for a regular flag.
