Great tool for helping remove an old Moen shower cartridge. After doing some online research, I knew that my old Moen shower valve cartridge would not be easy to remove and replace, it was, after all, probably twenty years old. I first tried the tried and true method of using plyers to remove it, but no luck. This tool, however, made the removal very easy. I just followed the directions, and out it came. I will say that the brass seating for the cartridge was smaller, and I had to use needle nose plyers to press down on the two flanges of the tool to help hold it in place. Doing this, the cartridge came right out. This tool is well worth the money for the ease of removing a stuck cartridge.

I was struggling to remove the cartridge from my Moen shower until I found this tool. It made the job so much easier! The grip is excellent, and it fits the cartridges perfectly. It’s definitely a must-have for DIY repairs. Well worth the investment!

So...the short review is that if your Moen cartridge won't easily slide out with the basic tools...this might not work for you. See my pics. The screw got lodged in the cartidge shaft and spun freely clockwise. Then it simply would not come off. So, I sawed off the end of the screw to try and pull it off...but no good. So, we just bend the screw and used it to turn the cartidge until we got the mixing valve core out. Then some needle nose pliers to scrape and yank out the rest. Not a fun or easy job. This was not the right tool for my job and sadly I don't think it will work anymore now that the center screw is bent and cut. I'll try reaching out to the seller and see if they can offer me a replacement. Sad to toss a tool after trying to use it once. Buyer and user beware!

I think the difference between this design and that of the Moen OEM tool is this can support a much longer amount of threading, which will pull the valve out from the fixture without constantly reseating the unit. I had to pull a probably 10-year-old shower valve and thought it was going to be a ton of force exerting, but it was in fact very simple and required only a handful of twists of the handle. The design of this also looks like it would be better than alternatives because it’s long enough to fit into valve assemblies, which are deep inside the wall.

I couldn’t be happier with this tool! It made removing the Moen 1222 cartridges so easy.
