So much better then a regular trough waterer/float.

Just set it up yesterday seems to be working perfect we'll see how time goes I will update my five-star at a later time if need be. I like it It's small enough to do it the job holds the pressure from my garden hose and my fountain level has not changed since yesterday. I'm serious I got another fountain I bought too I can't wait to hook it up.

So far it's working, time will tell if it holds up. The last one of these from a different vendor didn't last long, but I'm hopeful this one will work out longer term. Good product

Be aware that if you are planning to use a garden hose to connect to this that the end is male, just like the business end of your garden hose. Order a female-female adapter or extension to connect to the end of your hose. Easy to then zip-tie st your desired minimum water level.UPDATE: I recommend a 25psi pressure reducer as one of my garden hoses exploded when it was in the hot sun all day. The pressure reducer will keep this from happening since the house must be charged at all times too ensure the float valve works.

I have never used this type of fill valve before, but I have used plastic ones before. It seems to work well to keep my hydroponic reserve from overfilling. I have it hooked up to a pipe that connects to a faucet set on an automatic timer, because I don't want a faucet free flowing for the length of my vacation if something disconnects the water line while I am gone. My first thought getting a metal one is that it would possibly be more durable than the plastic ones, but since I've never had a plastic one break that's perhaps not a fair comparison. I think it might take a couple years to really determine which kind works better for the long term. However, one of the ones I received seems to be working well for my purposes now and I will building another hydroponics system shortly to use another.

This summer, I've tried to automate my vegetable garden as much as possible. The plants are watered by solar irrigators. Each of them draws from one of several buckets around the garden. Water to the buckets, in turn, is provided from the tap. Each bucket has a float valve to keep it full, but not overflowing. For this use, these float valves are superior to the others I've used because multiple rings on the barrel allow for it to be set at different heights. It allows for adjusting whether the shut-off occurs at the bucket rim, like the other float valves I've used, or a bit below it, which avoids spillage due to wind or an accidentally knocked or tilted bucket. The supporting stainless steel elbows and adapters have very loose threads, and require a lot of plumber's tape (provided) to keep from leaking. A pressure reducer between the hose and the valve also helped me decrease the leakage.A 1/2" NPT to 3/4" NPT adapter is provided with each valve. Unfortunately it doesn't mate with 3/4" hose ends, so I had to buy that adapter separately. It's also offered without the supporting hardware for a few dollars less, and I'll probably purchase them that way if I need any more.
