I’ve been using this gauge for checking cylinder bores on diesel engines, and it works well for the task. This gauge set may be advertised as a sleeve depth gauge but in reality it's a depth gauge on a steel block. It has its place in any machine shop. We have it set up on a bench to use as a quick step check for a part we make in-house.It works well and is reasonably accurate. It is a well made, simple tool.Highly Recommended.

I need this to measure the height of pistons on two stroke motorcycle engines. I was able to get consistent readings when measured against some feeler gages and the gage always returned to zero. There are some deficiencies as would be expected in an instrument that costs just $98. Some of the body is made of plastic and it's not very heavy. The dial doesn't turn very smoothly. I had difficulty getting the reduction collar to fit inside the base. For occasional use in rebuilding small engines, this will serve my purpose. I wouldn't expect to see this in a machine shop or used by a pro. For the things I am measuring consistency and repeatability are moe important than absolute accuracy and for that use I think it is fine.

This gauge performs its primary function well, and it reliably returns to zero, which is essential. However, I have some reservations about the finish on the bar. There are deep milling marks that raise questions about the overall quality control—if the visible parts are finished this way, I wonder about the internal precision. That said, the kit includes all the necessary tips and a solid case to keep everything organized and protected. It should work as expected, but the finish does leave me with some doubts.

Overall, I am pleased with this height gauge. The readings are consistent and it holds zero with no wandering. The case holds everything securely. I would buy this again. 5 STARS
