I recently got my Technician Class license and couldn’t wait to dive deeper into the world of ham radio. I chose the Baofeng handheld radio as my first rig, and while I was initially concerned about the stock antenna, I found that no adapter was needed for my setup. After careful research, I upgraded to the Nagoya NA-771 antenna, which fit perfectly and significantly enhanced my range and clarity. One memorable moment was making my first contact with another ham operator from across town; hearing their voice come through the radio was incredible! The Baofeng is a fantastic entry-level radio for anyone looking to get started. If you’re considering this setup, just ensure your antenna is compatible with your radio’s connector.Happy hamming, and 73!

This antenna (coupled with a simple Baofeng UV-5R) was easily able to hit my local repeater approximately 11 miles from my position. So in terms of TX and RX, it does great. However, it’s comically huge when unfolded. That may be a deal breaker for some, and I can’t say I was thrilled about it, but it performs well and stows fairly easily. The mechanism for extending this type of antenna is similar to a tape measure, only rubberized and stiffer. As some have said, don’t transmit unless the antenna is fully extended. Your radio will thank you.

Great price and the reviews I've seen on YouTube were impressive. For using with a Baofeng radio it does improve the reception. I was able to pickup the ISS "International Space Station" as it flew a few states in range. As far as transmitting I don't have a license yet but tests on YouTube again showed it worked much better the rubber duck or whip antenna that comes with the radio. For the price you can't lose. Some people complained it might break the connection on the radio. When using I just hold the radio by the antenna near the connection. No problems so far.

Certainly a better signal with this vs. the stock atenna. Receive is markedly better. Repeaters that I'd hear but with some static come in perfectly clear now (full quieting.) Am told by others on repeaters I use that my signal is more solid, and i've been able to turn down the power in my H/T to save battery and still get good signal reports (full quieting into the repeaters that I use.) Bought two, one for each H/T. Would buy again.

It's extremely unweildy but it works pretty well. The thing is comically huge but it is very good for an ht antenna
