The first one I got was already opened, had a password on the device, I factory defaulted it but it would not show a MAC address — so if you get one with all zeros as a Mac do yourself a favor and return it. This one had internal physical issue with one of the hdd connections too. I opened a ticket with Amcrest but it was to very little avail other than they wanted to RMA a brand new device so I returned it to Amazon and a new one was shipped. The new one worked perfectly. The learning curve for AI is this device only allows one camera as AI. Still learning how to implement ai as a camera with this device but I don’t think it can handle much video traffic complexities as a very expensive custom made NVR would — hence the price.

Very good quality and no issues with this DVR for home or business. I have used Amcrest for the last 3 years and never had a problem with their cameras or DVR's

I had high hopes for the Amcrest 4K NV4216-EI 16CH AI NVR, but unfortunately, I had to return it. I connected about 10 cameras, and it would not stay connected—constantly disconnecting and reconnecting, making it completely unreliable.I have 1GB high-speed internet, so connection speed wasn’t the issue. Despite troubleshooting, there was no stability, and it failed to provide the consistency I needed. Disappointed and would not recommend.

Installed a few of these between work amd home. They work great in a home set up and a a basic business set up. Most of our building managers it works just fine but we also have a few that want to playback all 16 cameras at once which it cannot handle where our 1 5 yr old old honeywell system does it without an issue . As far ancrest view pro pc version its a slow poorly coded app. They just released a amcrest view 2 for android that is faster and has a better user experiance than there original app hopefully they give us reworked and more optimized amcrest view pc app soon

This is the fourth NVR I have purchased and they are all additions for various premises. The oldest one in operation is 8 years old. I have not had any issues with any of them, not even hard drive replacements using WD surveillance drives. The latest unit has fantastic functionality a very nice updated UI software with AI features to support the latest cameras by Amcrest. The ease and speed of setup is excellent. Amcrest has moved away from using onboard power supplies and is now using an external power adapter this make the weight and size of the units smaller.

Review for the "Amcrest 4K NV4216-EI 16CH AI NVR".Initial setup was pretty good.I plugged everything in, added a password, it automatically added my ONVIF supporting camera. And then immediately started recording.A word of advice when setting up is to make sure you plug in your HDD because it will beep at you until you do.Now on to some of my complaints. The "AI" features don't work for my non Amcrest cameras.I actually can't even set up a simple tripwire notification. When I log into my camera online I can set up people and vehicle detection, tripwire boundaries, etc.But for now it will just be recording 24/7.The tiny fan is very loud. I already ordered some long extension cables so I can place the NVR far away from me. Its not just loud but the sound it makes is high pitched. There is a fan setting but only full and auto, and auto never ramped down. Most of the time if I change a camera setting, or want to adjust the image. The preview camera feed won't load and stays as a black screen. I check to see if the camera has all green indicator and it does. I also check online to see if its feed it live and viewable, and it is. So I am a bit confused why the NVR does not indicate anything is wrong but the live feed stays black. Maybe maybe the camera is not compatible?

This Amcrest 4K NV4216-EI 16CH AI NVR works right out of the box. I plugged my cameras in and after a few setup screens, it found my cameras without having to "search" for them. The NVR has a user-friendly interface and is fairly intuitive. My only suggestion when setting this up is to connect a USB keyboard to it as has a mouse-controlled screen keyboard and when you are "left-clicking" a password, it can be challenging. Apparently, I mistyped (mis-clicked) my password twice (and it accepted it). But when I went to logout/ re-login, it did not understand my password. After 10 retry attempts, I had to go through a process to reset my password via email (you just need the model number, serial number, and invoice for proof of ownership and they will email you a recovery code). That wouldn't have been so bad, but I had installed a (a very old) HDD that was not compatible and a very loud and annoying alarm alarm would not turn off. (I could not get it to stop) until I removed it.The bad password and incompatible hard drive were all my fault, but the mouse-driven keyboard is awful, so plug in a USB keyboard and it will save some frustration. The NVR works without a hard drive, it just does not record anything.I'll order a recommended HDD online (they have a list of recommended compatible HDD on their support website). I can get one for ~$50 - $300 depending on the size and company.Overall this is a great replacement for my PC that doubles as an NVR.

If you know this going in, you are OK. This uses the camera AI and inside this thing is a very underpowered device to just broker the recordings to disk, handle a simple UI.That said, ti works well for the price and can handle a lot of streams. You can also take the streams back out with RTSP and do further processing in Frigate or another NVR. Very nice. I'll be using this for archival and then Frigate for AI via Coral AI USB.
