  • Our biofilter balls are covered in spines to dramatically increase the surface area of each ball to nearly 2 square feet providing space for a massive number of beneficial bacteria to colonize. These good bacteria break down harmful organic waste.
  • Our large bio balls spherical shape and precise spine placement permits them to pack tightly into any shape or filter type without losing surface area. Molded from high density plastic, these bio media balls are lightweight but tough enough to keep their shape and will never degrade or wear out. This makes these heavy-duty bio balls perfect for pond filters for outdoor ponds or as a bio media for aquarium filter
  • Our bio filter balls are 100% polypropylene making them a safe reliable biological media for use as koi pond bio filter media, freshwater aquariums, and for saltwater fish tank bio media, aquaponics bio ball media, and much more. These biomedia balls can be used loose or in the mesh bag with plastic zipper
  • Over time, porous lava rock becomes clogged with debris decreasing its surface area so that its ability to house and grow good beneficial bacteria plummets. Our bio balls’ uniquely spaced spines allow most debris to pass right through them. Lava rock has tiny pores which make it difficult to clean while bio balls in most applications never need cleaning.
  • SPONGE FREE BIO MEDIA: A huge problem with other bio ball filter media is that they have a sponge in their centers to increase surface area, but sponge pores trap gunk that does not wash away. This trapped gunk reduces water quality. This problem is solved with our bio balls! How? They have a small solid center covered in spines that won’t trap gunk. You never have to suffer with poor water quality. Made in USA

What a brilliant product! SO much better than those old dirty lava rocks. Easy to clean with a good hose. My pond water greatly improved after adding these

I have been using fiber filters, but they breakdown too quick. The Balls were very inexpensive, and easy to install. The balls have trapped so much algae breakdown. Balls are easy to clean, we have a bucket with holes drill in bottom, pour balls in bucket and just blast them clean. Balls should last a very long time? All around money saver for my pond maintenance. Once new balls have been installed, I have notice pond water stays cleaner for a longer period of time. I would recommend this item for your pond water cleaning.

They seem like a good product but we're using them in conjunction with matala pads to biofilter a duck pond and I'm not sure we've got enough filter material in the bog pond. The balls float and we originally weighted the bags but then tied them together as a last filter before the waterfall without the weight. Can't say I've seen a difference in water quality no matter where they are but I'm pretty sure I just need a lot more filters to grow good bacteria. We are trying to handle filtering around 850 gallons of nasty duck water with up to 8 ducks, soon to be 7 once we rearrange a boy to a different zone.I think these might be better suited to a cleaner environment, like coi or ornamental ponds.

These are the greatest thing! We've always used lava rock & found it to be a pain to clean & care for. We do have a back yard pond & are using these Bio-Balls ~ they add to a much better filtration.

We have a waterfall and small pond with only a biological filter, so I was looking for a little more space to grow good bacteria. I used to have large Saltwater tanks that I used bio balls in, so I purchased these bio balls and placed them in our pump housing in order to get more surface area for good bateria. Still working on stabeliizing the biological filter, but water is already more clear.

The accompanying mesh bag is too small for this many balls. It ends up being a 16"x12"x6" mound that does not distribute across your opening and filter. I had to get a separate bag about twice the size to arrange and fit.

LOTS of balls! I actually took half out. Totally catches algae. I rinse them periodically . Put them in my waterfall container. Helps a LOT. Worth the $$

They work very well. My pond was crystal clear after just a couple days. I bought 2 packages because my pond is fairly large

As is typical of pond equipment from Aquascape, it retails for a crazy pricing structure, and they don't even manufacture any of the products. They mostly originate from cheap Asian resources, and of course, you get what you pay for. In this case the Bia Balls does the job intended however, the quantity one gets for the price doesn't come close to be adequate for the typical volume of Bio Falls equipment. Won't be purchasing anymore stuff from Aquascape.
