This really does cut a bagel smoothly. I found that the bagel needs to be at room temperature. I tried cutting one that I took out of the refrigerator and it was extremely tough, so I put the next one in the microwave and instead of cutting it smashed it into a lump of dough. If you take it out of the fridge and let it sit for a half hour or so it slices with no problem.

I was not impressed with this Item. The blades just crushed my bagel. I use a serrated knife which works a TON better. I actually threw this item out.

The cutter cuts a bagel well. There are downsides to it, but really only one in particular:When you pick it up from the counter, you need to use one hand for the top and one for the bottom. It isn't the weight. It's very light. The reason is it has two parts and there's really no good way to pick it up with one hand without the bottom part falling.It doesn't sound like a problem -- but it's very awkward.They should redesign it so that there's some kind of slot or snap-into-place component.It isn't difficult to clean for the most part. But if a food particle gets stuck -- like garlic -- then it would be difficult to reach certain parts of the device.I of course don't yet know for how long the blade will remain sharp enough to do its job. I bought it recently. I do wonder if it could be a bit sharper.In terms of safety, it was extremely well-designed! The point of the blade really can't be touched. If it falls, the blade won't come in contact with anything. It's receded.

It would not work on the large bagels I like .its useless for my purpose.

It looks nice. Came with one bolt floating around in the box. I wish it would cut the bagel more smoothly. Kind of mangles it. For the price, it is fine.
