I have never used one of these types of sensors before. Most of my projects use inductive proximity sensors, so when I had the opportunity to try this sensor out I figured I had to give it a go. The sensor uses a low power red laser to determine if an object is within a certain distance of the beam. This distance is adjustable with a small trim pot on the housing of the sensor. I found the adjustment to work well within the specs of the sensor and the sensitivity was very accurate. Any object passing within the trigger distance of the beam changed the state of the outputs. There is an indicator lamp on the sensor that glows green for not triggered and then changes to red when the sensor is triggered. The NPN output was more than adequate to indicate an energized state on my P1AM PLC discrete input, and the sensor was incredibly fast responding (it had no problem triggering on the blades of a box fan at full speed without missing a beat). Very good sensor for projects that need proximity detection where tolerances are fairly wide and different types of materials are used.

This is extremely easy to set up and has a fast response rate. It came packaged in an antistatic bag and was a breeze to set up.
