The bread knife that comes with it seems sharp---haven't used it yet but seems good so far based on how sharp it feels to the fingers. The packaging could be better as it was almost impossible to get the knife off of the wrapping around the board without almost cutting myself, but since it's not going to affect the product itself, I'm not dropping the rating at this time. Lastly, there is a sticker on the plastic board you put at the end that says to remove the film on both sides before using. I can't seem to see any film on either side to peel off. Maybe mine just didn't get any put on in the first place OR it is impossible to see. Doesn't impact performance of the product but thought it was good to mention. Overall, the biggest plus here is the ability to cut multiple thicknesses in your bread loaf. The metal parts that give you your guide are firmly placed into the wooden board so it feels like it would work pretty well to keep an even cutting experience.

I like this bread slicing guide mostly for its stainless steel guides. Plastic would probably break too quickly, and wood may get splintered and sawed into by the knife. Stainless makes a fine guide. I like that the guides can be taken out and, along with the plastic back, can be laid on the base and everything stored flat, or if put in a baggie, stored on it side up against the wall of a cabinet. The wooden base is quite heavy with screwed on silicone feet, that will make sliding about a little less likely. I'm not sure what they consider a "crumb tray", but the most likely the crumbs are going to fall on the base and probably onto the counter beneath. There are no side lips to the contain crumbs strictly to the base. The cutting guides are about 6 1/2 inches long. If the bread you want to cut is longer, cut it in half and do half a loaf at a time. I wanted this mostly to use as a guide for cutting quick breads (banana bread, blueberry-lemon loaf, etc). I bake these loaves in 8 or 9" loaf pans so I already know they are longer than will fit on the board, and I have no problem cutting the loaf in half; heck, I'm cutting the whole thing anyhow. The distance from the center between 2 stainless guides and the next center is about 3/8 of an inch, so, allowing for the thickness of the knife, the thinnest slices will be between 1/4 and 3/8's of an inch. Skip spaces to get thicker slices. The posts are connected by 2 parallel bars at on end the base and fit into slots cut into the wood base. They are not exactly snug when place in the slots, there is a very slight give and barely noticeable sideways movement. Used properly, I don't expect the slots to expand enough to cause a lot of leaning to the side. An even if they do start to lean, the distance from one post to the next will remain the same no matter how much they might lean. Overall, I am quite happy with the cutting guide. There were also 2 additional items that come with the guide: a breadknife and what looks like an oversized 2-prong appetizer fork with a wood handle. The fork is apparently to be used to hold the bread in place while cutting so you don't have to "contaminate" the bread by touching it. If touching the bread bothers you, get plastic kitchen gloves. That bitty fork will chew the bread up. All I have to say about the knife is that it's a piece of junk. The manufacturer would have done better to provide a box or bag for when the guide is disassembled for storing.

We make a lot of homemade bread. And getting that perfect slice has always been a problem. This solves the problem.I like the holders. Stainless and heavy. The base is heavy and stays in place. The bread "fork" is about useless. It doesn't really hold the bread, and it bores holes in it. The bread knife is more in line for more cake breads like banana. The teeth are to close together. I ended up using my bread knife for the italian bread we made and it worked better. The stopper, getting the coating off was a nightmare. No tabs to make the covering release. And it slides around. My elbow kept bumping it and it went right out the back side. For $37, they could have done away with the fork, knife and stopper and put in a nice storage bag. Will I continue to use it? I am not sure at this point. It does give me the even slices. But it isn't ideal for everyday use.

This was great! I am just getting back into bread-making and plan to start to make our sandwich breads again. I always struggled to get thin slices that are relatively even. This is great though. The prongs are sturdy and don't flex much when cutting. My bread came just a smidge wider than the prongs- which was great because it held everything very tightly while I sliced the bread. The frames fit into the slots with very little play. The backer board was a great touch too so I can press bread against it and control the slices. It also came with a bread knife- not high quality, but worked well enough for right now. It was sharp and clean and did the job. The little fork I don't picture myself needing/using.

First of all, let me say that you can just throw away the knife that comes in this set. It’s horrible, save yourself the trouble. The bread holder itself is nice. It fits perfectly the bread made in compact bread maker - yay! The walls provide a good guide for cutting the bread, and overall quality is decent. But it comes apart too easily for my liking. Wish the walls and the transparent back could lock better in place.

First off, the knife feels very light, I didn’t think it was going to be good but it does actually cut nice. The slice size I personally like is between the two sizes you can accomplish with this. There were some material flaws as well. The cutting board has a piece of cracked wood and while the router slots for the upright tines is very precise for a nice fit, there are burn marks inside which doesn’t make for a very nice finished look. The upright tines are also not very rigid, however it doesn’t affect the straightness of the cuts as much as I thought it was going to. Not bad but I have another item similar to this, I’ll probably stick with that one.
