Soil was moist, just like the instructions. The single metal loop to step down on is not adequate - thing just falls over when you push on it, and only goes in 1-2" at a push. I quickly learned to tilt it far to the left, then step down on the right, but it still took multiple jumps on it to get it to go any deeper, and it started to hurt my instep right away. Then - the push bar to push the soil back out of it is completely inadequate. Only partially worked the first time, and then I had to use my hands as well as slam it repeatedly on the ground to get the plug to come out EVERY SINGLE TIME after that - and even when the plug comes out, there's a LOT of soil still left in it that you have to clean out by hand every time, as it stops the push bar.So you're having to spend a LOT of extra time and excess effort, for every single hole. Would have been faster to just use a regular garden spade, and a lot less wear and tear on the hands, wrists, feet and back. I only got through one and a half bags of bulbs before I just gave up, and I'm very persistent/unwilling to give up.I still have four and a half bags of bulbs to plant. I'm purchasing a new garden spade & will be done with it far more quickly and with less effort!

I recently got this bulb garden planter, and I'm thrilled with how easy it was to put together. It's sturdy and seems very durable, making it perfect for my spring gardening plans. I can't wait to see my garden flourish with this reliable addition! Highly recommended for gardening enthusiasts.

I definitely prefer this standing foot and hand operated bulb planter to having to crawl around on the ground to use one of the hand operated ones. They say to water the ground thoroughly first which is correct as I doubt that this planter would work on dry ground. I tried it out on some moist ground and it worked like a champ. In my test it pulled the plug up with it without crumbling. However, when I tried pushing down on the foot operated plug removal mechanism it wouldn't budge. I pressed quite hard until I has afraid I was going to break something. I dug along the slot with my finger where the plug was lodged and broke out some of the dirt and then the mechanism finished it off by ejecting what was left. Different types of dirt would probably produce different levels of difficulty but for the soil around here, I'd say this is pretty much going to be par for the course. Not a super big deal but I guess it'd be good to bring a long screwdriver with you to quickly rake down the slot each time to get things started when working on ejection. The plug ejection issue is not a deal breaker for me, though, and I would still recommend this item. Really saves crawling around on the ground.Oh, and the 2 tone canary yellow/black on this item makes it impossible to miss if you're scanning the garage for it or cleaning up after a day of gardening and don't want to miss any tools.

This Long-Handled Bulb Planter Tool is wonderful! Last year I was on the ground digging holes to plant bulbs and my back killed me! This coming year, I am going to be ready!!! This Bulb Planter Tool is made from heavy duty metal. It is so easy to use, just make sure and water the ground first...this will go into the ground and when you pull it out, it will have a nice plug of soil...then you just use your foot and step on the lever and it will release the soil. Easy, peasy!!! This will be a game changer when I plant bulbs next season!

Broke the first time I used it. The foot lever was poorly soldered on and came right off. Easy return.
