This tool does a nice job of pulling out soil plugs which really speeds up planting. It works well on compacted soil and makes it easy to replace hard packed dirt with compost or other amendments. The handle is a bit short and is a little under waist height for me (5'11"). It would be nice if it cut a wider hole, but overall it's a solid tool and worth the price.

This bulb planter is sturdy and well balanced, and very easy to use.It works well on most soil. Older kids LOVE to use it to help in the garden, too - maybe because it looks like a pogo stick.Our yard is very rocky and I was hoping this would be a good time saver there, but it is not.It gets stuck on any rock bigger than about a dime, and I'm back on my knees, digging with the trowel!This is not the fault of the Yard Butler tool - just wanted to point out that those shoppers looking for a tool for planting in rocky soil should keep looking.

For the money, a very well built unit. Very strong construction. Problem is the dirt get stuck when you dig, which sort of destroys the whole purpose. In the end, I can see where you would be better off with a portable drill based unit. Also, if you are older,you may end up with an aching foot after after using the unit to plant a couple of hundred bulbs.

This device was great to plant over 50 flower bulbs, just wish it were about 2 inches longer, for those of us over 5'8".

I used this tool in conjunction with a Yard Butler RP-3 24-inch Roto Planter (soil auger that attaches to a drill) to plug about 10,000 square feet of Buffalograss. Granted, it was a bit time consuming, but given the cost of Buffalograss seed, this excellent tool, in combination with the soil auger saved me more than $1,000. This tool is well built and sturdy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a professional's use.

This made the project of planting bulbs very easy. No bending to the ground or sitting on the ground. The soil core popped right out, and all I had to do was drop in the bulb and cover with the soil in the tool.The cost of this tool is more than offset by the increase in ease and comfort. I am no spring chicken, but I was able to plant a yard full of bulbs with no problem.
