This is a good quality inlet box. I like how it is made out of steel rather than plastic. Installation was moderately difficult mostly due to the monster romex that is required. I used a step drill bit to drill a hole in the back to route the 6 gauge romex through with 3/4” cable clamp. Working with 6-3 romex plus ground is challenging since it is so stiff and heavy. There’s plenty of room inside the box to make the wire connections with blue wire nuts. The only issue I had is the lower mounting holes are blocked by the inlet connector body. The workaround was to drill two new bottom mounting holes closer to the edge of the box. I attached the inlet box to the brick wall with Tapcon screws. I like how the inlet cable connector attaches to the bottom of the box, which provides rain protection. Works great with my Firman tri-fuel generator and Champion 30 ft, 50 amp power cable. For safety, I installed a generator breaker interlock model BR-200-2 from Generator Safety. The interlock is a crucial safety mechanism that prevents the main breaker and 50 amp generator breaker from being on at the same time. I can power my whole house off natural gas except the central HVAC. That’s okay because when the power is out I can use my window ac or space heater instead.

For me, pushing in my high 70's, it was no easy task to install. But that's because of where I had to locate the box. So I turned the chore over to my 13 year old grandson. After spotting the location, we mounted it to a piece of two inch Sch. 40 pvc conduit using the back wall of the case. There were space restrictions for using the provided top access. We formed a wall gasket to make a good seal, and we salvaged the female expanded end of the conduit to make a ring. The ring was cemented (pvc cement) to the 2" pvc stub. Only because of where we chose to mount the box, I would have preferred some externally mounted angle brackets. Mounting to old concrete is dubious for my clumsy hands. Anyway, the box is up and the power cable is installed. I cannot understand why anyone would make a receptacle for outdoor use, call it weatherproof, and make it front mount. This bottom mount receptacle receives HIGH PRAISE. No worries about driving rain, because the cable is mounted in the bottom of the case. Great design.

I'm really happy with this inlet. 50A is a bit overkill for my little house but why not spend a few extra bucks to have the option? I also like the idea of the inlet facing the ground. Fit and finish is exactly what you'd expect from any big name electrical companies and so I expect this to last a lifetime. Installation is pretty simple and #8 stranded pigtails are included. Keep in mind that #8 THWN individual wires in conduit can handle 50A but if you are using NM-B you will need to size up to #6. As others have stated, there is plenty of room for connections and if you chose to not use the pigtails the terminals appear to accept #6.If you are looking for an inlet for emergency power situations I would not cheap out with the random alphabet soup brand names Amazon is selling the minor savings are not worth the risks.

EDIT: After THREE orders, I finally received the model that is advertised (2x thin bolts on the ground). They were all the same 50amp model except for the inlet socket. I even posted one picture with the 1x THICK ground bolt and a black plastic housing. The ground connection on two of the three orders had this bolt that stuck WAY out (first one had 1x VERY thick bolt, the other had 2x medium thickness bolts which STILL didn't allow my cable to fit). Now that I have the advertised one installed, and my NEMA SS2-50R fits just fine, I can confidently say that this is the best option on the market for a 50amp inlet. It is excellent and has plenty of space to work inside. It was very easy to take out the socket and remove the pigtails, as I upgraded to #6. Very well built and well thought out... I'm still docking a star for those messed up units, and the fact that I both called Connecticut Electric and sent them a couple emails and never heard back.ORIGINAL: I can't comment much about it, but I can say that I received something different than what's advertised. Main difference being this grounding plate. You can see in my photo that there is a single affixed bolt that holds the top of the grounding plate on. It is MASSIVE (about 1/8 in thick) compared to the one in their photo which is 2 bolts much more flush to the wall. I have two SS2-50R twist cables and NEITHER of them will fit. And yes, that pin is the only element preventing the from going in. Even the Connecticut Electric NEMA SS2-50R/14-50P cable does not have a pathway for this thick bolt. I noticed that their version is an all gray part, where mine is black. Clearly there is a manufacturing difference here, and I'm hoping that they are aware of the issue. I called and left a voicemail with the manufacturer but I'm not sure I'm going to hear back. I will have to return this and find another solution.
