You connect it there at the crankshaft and align to this pin that it fits on the left side and that is it, crankshaft is in position. After that everything has only one way to go in so this little cheap piece ensures that your timing job is done properly.

Looks like it fits and times flawlsy and it probably does I won't know for sure til I complete the timing in my truck but it fits perfectly and is seem to be as they say it this far so this tool definitely makes life easier especially if u got the 5.r cause come on we all know this is t the last time you will be needing it with that 5.4 engine lol I'm in the same boat this is my 3rd time.

In short I saved a bunch of money with this and it aligned my crank perfectly being as it runs like a new motor. It was quite rough and I spent 15 minutes or so with a file cleaning it up but it worked. Worth it to me.

This tool did what it is supposed to. Did not have to grind the end at all to clear the a/c compressor. The line up hole went over the dowel pin just fine. You likely don't really need this tool, the crank sprocket is keyed to the shaft, the cam phasers are doweled to the cams, and the links on the timing chains are marked. If you make sure the colored chain links are on the right spots of the crank and cam sprockets, you will be good to go. Put crank sprocket dot at 6:00 and call it good. I didn't use this tool to turn the crank, used it only as a line up tool, so not sure if it would've broke like that other review showed.
