Best case for the money and offers as much protection as cases 2 to 3 times more expensive. There might be some overkill to all the latches - I always seem to overlook one which delays opening - but no fears about accidentally opening the case and mandolin falling out. Hard for to imagine any non-bowl back mandolin NOT fitting into this case but some of that Chinese junk might be a problem since Eastman and others have little to no experience building mandolins that sound like mandolins instead of thin tinny sounding wood boxes with pretty stain and varnish. Only one complaint: accessory compartment is too small to be useful. I'm thinking about finding a way to attach a fabric pocket like you see on student violin cases to hold extra strings, picks, sheet music, set lists, etc. Stickers can be easily removed from the fiberglass body using Goo-be-Gone. Oh, yeah, I bought Crossrock's protective fabric case bag to stuff the case into when flying to reduce scratching. This fabric case is a tight fit when new but with use the material becomes more flexible. Some "expert" reviewer said something about the case being safe for check-in luggage. Huh? Federal law states that we can bring instruments on board - especially a mandolin or violin which take up less room than a guitar or banjo. So ignore that nonsense. The only reason you can be forbidden from bringing it on board is that there's not enough room for it in the overheads. I've never been challenged about bringing mine on board and there's always enough room somewhere for it. Guitars and banjos might be trickier. But just xerox a copy of the Federal bill (it's just a half page) and bring it with you in case you're told you can't bring it on board.

This is a provisional review on an item just out of the box. The real test will come after some hard usage - I'll try to update then. The model is Crossrock CRF1020MAFWT.My old Superior white molded fiberglass mandolin case (listed as no longer available) finally died after years of hard usage, and I got this Crossrock to replace it. Photos make it look superficially similar, but in fact it is significantly different. It is about 1 1/2 inches longer and 1 1/2 inches wider, which keeps it a reasonable size, but gives a little bit more useful extra interior room for strings and a few small tools. The 5 x 3.75 inch lidded interior container will fit a tuner, extra battery, picks, small string cutter, string winder, small screwdriver and microfiber cloth. There is room under the headstock for a set of strings. It has a felt covered foam insert about 12 by 3.5 by 1 1/4 inches which fits around the bottom bout of the mandolin and and allows the case to securely but comfortably accommodate either my old Gibson F5 Fern or my 5 string J. Bovier electric, a trick which the Superior could not manage. My Godin A8 accoustic/electric also fits nicely, but I generally use Godin's well padded gig bag for that one. There are 5 snaps around the edge instead of the 3 on the Superior for a more secure hold. The seal seems better with the bottom edge slipping snugly into the top which seems more likely to keep out moisture. It comes with backpack shoulder straps to keep your hands free.Crossrock says they want you to compare their product with a Calton case, not a Superior. But since Calton's molded fiber glass mandolin cases run from $825 to over $1,100, I am not in a position to test that claim. And I am not about to find out if you can hit it with a pickup truck or set it on fire like the case in the Calton video.BTW, I'm an older guy hauling around my mandolin 3 or 4 times a week, so I find this type of case more convenient than the classic Gibson rectangular case, even for an F5 Fern - just don't tell Gibson that!So far, so good! But the real test will come after some significant usage.

As Son Nguyen reviewed, “Nice case, does not fit Eastman MD304”.Nevertheless, forewarned is forearmed: I ordered with the intention of retrofitting with discarded closed-cell foam so won’t knock around and be damaged..Flying with mandolin in this case. If Delta indicates mandolin+case go in the cargo hold, the mando will be better protected than in fabric-covered gig bag. If stored underseat or overhead, bridge won’t be crushed.A tad overengineered, but hey, am buying to protect a fragile wooden instrument.Sturdiness supreme.Locks all around, even on the hinge side, and includes TSA lock and 2 keys.Top aligned and fits bottom securely. Rubber seal on outer closing edges.Multiple pads placed on all sides but the top: Case won’t mar surfaces or be marred wherever you store it.Am okay that all this protection comes with additional weight.+ I can decorate the fiberglass case with band and venue stickers!

Much more rigid and “substantial” than my ABS Crossrock case. Will always be a fan of the backpack strap design. Not a huge fan of the headstock-handle, and wish it was optional. I’m a little concerned that the underside padding is going to settle too much and not give the instrument much protection, since it seems kinda soft. The idea of the great stand-off and strategic placement of top-padding is awesome! Out of the cases I currently have, and have inspected, this is the first one I feel like I can trust for my custom-built mandolin.

Beautiful yet rugged mandolin case. Inside and out. There’s enough storage on the inside for some picks, tuner, cloth and strings - and that’s about it. Get lots of compliments on this thing!

The fit of my F-Style mandolin is great especially with the small added removable side pad. The backpack strips are nice feature. It's offers great protection, resilient padding, great design and construction. The price is very reasonable in a category that can be out of sight.

Crossrock has overdelivered. This mandolin case is beautifully designed and built. Very sturdy - I bought to be able to confidently check a mando, and am confident doing so in this case. Fantastic value.
