It works perfectly with Germans cars.

The alternator was the original part so the bolt was on tight on the pulley. I use this tool and a prybar and a pool handle and remove the old pulley. A lot cheaper than replacing the whole alternator. The toll probably saved me a few hundred bucks.

The dealers charge over $300 to use this tool. Buy it and keep in your tool box for that rainy day. It worked for me while replacing the Volvo Alternator. Great buy

I have a 2001 Volvo S60 T5 with about 150k miles on it and it still has the original alternator. I'm not having any issues with it yet but I know they'll come soon enough. So as a preemptive measure I decided to chain the two biggest wear items, the voltage regulator and the pulley. This tool makes getting the pulley off a breeze, especially if you have an impact gun. On my Volvo the information in the Haynes manual was wrong. It says that you need to spin the pulley splines counter clockwise, but that will only tighten it down further. You have to turn the pulley to the right while holding or turning the spindle to the left. I just used my impact gun on reverse into the torx tool and held a wrench on the multi spline tool. It buzzed right off!

Purchased to assist in reinstalling the pulley wheel on a Bosch "freewheel" alternator for my Volvo V70. Actually bought this for the sliding "counterhold" piece, the 33-spline fitting [Volvo part # V9995761]. Was glad that this counterhold piece comes off the long bit, and fits perfectly on the pulley wheel. The long shaft in the middle actually seems to be a T50 torx bit, and it is way too long for working on the alternator while it is still bolted to the engine. No issue for me, have a workaround for that with a shorter torx bit.All in all this was a needed tool at a decent price.UPDATE: ended up pulling the alternator due to very cramped positioning in the engine bay of my 2005 V70. This tool worked great, and I was able to torque pulley wheel to spec with no issue at all (other than the disassembly of half the #@&* engine).

Worked like a charm for my alternator pulley. I did have to take the splined section and put it on an impact gun and 'bump' the pulley with the impact gun (tap the trigger quickly then wait for it to stop spinning and repeat) to break it loose then use the triple square driver to finish the removal and install. For my application you will have to completely remove the alternator from the car.

I wish everything was this easy. I have an '04 Golf TDI. The windshield washer fluid tank needs to be removed, as the tool is too long otherwise. That's way quicker than removing the alternator from the car. The pulleys are torqued to 80 NM/M so it takes a bit of force to unscrew. At these torque values you must make doubly sure that the teeth are seated completely in both parts, the pulley and the shaft. The tool is well made, seems properly hardened, and precisely machined and finished. Not that it should matter but this item is Taiwanese not 'chi-com. That's why they are on the island.

I really had to abuse this tool to break the pulley bolt loose from the alternator. I put the alternator on the floor and clamped it to the leg of my work bench, put this tool on a breaker bar, put a 4 ft. extension on the breaker bar, put all my weight on that extension, and then whacked the assembly about 50 times with a 2 lb hammer before the bolt broke loose. I thought for sure the tool would break, but it only put a slight twist in the Torx splines. I can't say whether or not it would hold up through a second round of that kind of punishment, but I am happy that it lasted as long as it did and that I was able to get the job done the first time.

Works exactly as advertised. The fitment is a little tight. Don’t kid yourself it needs to be

Quality tool, unfortunately my alternator shaft had a six point rather than a 12 point socket. I'll look closer next time! If your looking to use this on a Golf mk IV, you'll have to remove your alternator. Not enough room to use it under the hood.
