I've been playing guitar for 30+ years and I've tried pretty much every brand of strings in that time. My default brand for most of that was Elixir Polyweb 80/20 Bronze and these strings are superior to those. Unlike the polywebs, which sound a little artificial at first until you break them in, these sound great on day one and really open up after about a week (10-20 hours of playing). And unlike the nanowebs, the coating on these seems to last much longer. While these strings are expensive, you'd have to buy 3 packs of non-coated strings to match their longevity. So they are actually cheaper than regular stings in the long run.Another benefit is the steel core in these strings makes them way stronger than other strings, which is important if you change tunings often as they are much less likely to break when tuning back up to standard. Also, these strings feel really good on the fingers and don't generate much fret noise at all. They are a joy to play on and are less likely to make your fingers sore after long sessions of playing.Lastly, the sound of these strings is really balanced. Some strings have way more high end or low end, but these are really even sounding with good, rich bass and clear highs that don't sound too harsh with treble.Note, I've only used the 80/20 bronze version of these. I prefer that sound to the phosphor bronze, but I assume those are equally good.Long story short, these D 'Addario XS strings are my new default and what I'll compare all other stings to from here on out.

Daddario consistently delivers on strings which install , function, last, and sound great. Worth the price tag in my humble opinion.

I purchase several things on Amazon and was giving pretty in-depth reviews. From this point on, here's the new agenda…. if it works as advertised, is well made, meets or exceeds the description, is a value, and arrives in a fair amount of time, it will get a "star rating" equal to what my expectations were/are. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then I will most definitely and descriptively tell the short comings of the products and you as a consumer will not have to go through the trouble of buying the product without some background knowledge. If the sell pulls that item and relists under another description, I will put the exact same review on the seller's feedback page. Sellers have done this a couple of times in the past, and I was true to my word then as well as now. DR

I was an Elixer lifer. I worked at music and arts and guitar center and taught guitar for 15 + years. I play at my church now every Sunday, and found I needed to change my strings at least once a month! You can see where the coating is gone where I strum, and the guitar sounds dead. I switched to a different brand coated strings, and they sound as good as elixer, but last 2-3x longer. My guess is that elixer watered down their poly and nano web coating but I can’t prove it lol.TLDR: Elixer strings are not as long lasting as they used to be

My headline is from their promo text. So, on the wound string (E-A-D-G) you've got an "ultra thin film coating", and on the others (B-E) you have a "proprietary polymer treatment". These are supposed to protect the strings from corrosion and other irritants and aid in a longer life for the strings. It'll be awhile before I can verify that or not....However, you would think that because of this coating that this would deaden the sound, but it absolutely does not... "Bronze are our brightest acoustic guitar strings", and I like that the sound is bright but not overly-bright. It's a clear, ringing tone that I am enjoying so far. Even with the mahogany top Martin!I'm a little perplexed by the unnecessary complexity of the bag... "our premium re-sealable VCI bag, so every set is kept factory fresh until you're ready..." Well, okay. It seems as though if you're changing a whole set of strings, this packaging is excessive and unnecessary. And with all the strings in one pouch, rather than in individual paper sleeves, it's not the idea set to use as your quick go-to when you need to change one string on the fly.It also might be a touch weird for beginners, as again instead of one string inside a sleeve labeled "D string" (etc.), you get all of them in one bag with slightly different-colored ball ends, with color codes listed on the packaging. Nothing crazy, but worth mentioning.d'Addario is well-established mainstay in the guitar string world, and these strings, representing this "tremendous leap forward", are another worthy edition to their arsenal, and even though they are a bit on the pricey side, they are worth trying. Guitarists can have some weird quirks, like they can only use a certain brand/color/gauge pick or else everything is ruined... so maybe these will be your go-to strings. 4.4 stars.

I wouldn't even consider using uncoated strings on my acoustic guitar. They last soooo much longer and get rid of the horrible squeal you get with uncoated strings.
