This refractometer worked great. Very easy to read. I bought it to test the DEF in my motorhome. The only problem I had was getting some of the DEF out of the container in the motorhome. The small siphon tubes they give you are only about 6 inches long so I had to use a long tube to get some out. Once I did that, checking the DEF took about 2 minute. Nice plastic case with padding inside to keep the device safe.

I had to make a minor correction to calibrate mine, but it was easy (tool included). Simple to use; great price; saves you from a derate and a lot of lost revenue and repair costs. You honestly can't afford NOT to have one. Sprinkle a few drops from the DEF dispenser at the pump, go back in your truck for 30 seconds to get the DEF to ambient temperature, and look at the reading. If it's bad, don't buy DEF there.

The unit was easy to calibrate and measured the specific gravity of the DEF that I wanted to check perfectly.

I found I had gotten tired of running back to the shop to get the shop's refractometer just to verify the DEF quality sensor took a dump. Purchased this and speeds up diagnostics drastically. Quick sample and look through the glass. Done.As far as accuracy. After is all said and done, the refractometer typically shows 1-2% off of the quality sensor reading on the laptop. Plenty close enough as typically the faulty sensors I run into are off by 10% and out of range

Inexpensive insurance against bad DEF. I plan on taking this in to the store and texting the DEF I'm purchasing before I even leave the store.

This unit, once simply calibrated with distilled water, really makes it easy and convenient to test DEF before putting it in your vehicle.Much easier to read than the bubble meters that always seem to be giving inconsistent concentration readings.A good piece of quality equipment.

I purchased the SMARTSMITH def refractometer to test the urea concentration of the def I put in my diesel truck. I carefully read and followed instructions for calibration with distilled water and then tested with two different batches of new def from my local auto parts store. The def from the store was only a few months old according to the date stamped on the def package. The SMARTSMITH refractometer showed that the urea concentration was 31.25% for both batches of fresh def.I thought it was odd that two separate batches of fresh def were 31.25% instead of the required 32.5%, so I purchased another leading brand def refractometer, the OTC 5025 Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Refractometer that cost 4 times the cost of the SMARTSMITH def refractometer. I carefully read the instructions and calibrated both the OTC 5025 refractometer and the SMARTSMITH def refractometer, and again tested both new batches of def.The OTC 5025 model refractometer showed that the urea concentration was 32.5% for both batches of fresh def, which is what I would expect, as 32.5% is the required concentration.Meanwhile the SMARTSMITH def refractometer, this model, still showed that the urea concentration was 31.25% for both batches of fresh def.In my testing, This model, the SMARTSMITH def refractometer, while significantly less expensive than the OTC 5025 model does not provide accurate results.I do not recommend this unit. Based on my experience I suggest the OTC 5025 model.I have not been contacted or contacted by OTC or any def refractometer company or def manufacturer to provide this review. I am just an ordinary person trying to make sure the def I use is up to the required standard so I do not damage my new diesel truck that uses def.
