  • EPA regulations require all diesel engines manufactured on or after January 1, 2010 to meet lowered NOX emissions standards. Most heavy duty engine (Class 7-8 trucks) manufacturers, have chosen to equip SCR, like Detroit Diesel (DD13, DD15, and DD16 models), Cummins (ISX line), PACCAR, and Volvo/Mack. SCR-equipped engines require the weekly addition of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF, a kind of urea solution) to enable the process, and to ensure the SCR system work properly, operators must ensure the DEF concentration in their vehicle being at about 32.5 percentage.
  • This refractometer is designed for measuring the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) concentration, makes it very quick and easy to test the quality of DEF, just need a few drops of the fluid and a few seconds, you can get the result. Measuring Scale Range:0%-40% Urea Concentration.

ATC FUNCTION

The build-in Automatic Temperature Compensation feature makes it get consistently accurate reading, no need to control the liquids temperature deliberately, just make sure it's at roomtemperature ( during 0-25 ℃).

Notice:

Accurate measurement based on good calibration, please calibrate the refractometer before your first use. But you don’t have to calibrate it frequently, once every a few months is OK.

When you put your sample to be tested on the daylight plate, make sure the liquid spreads across the entire surface of the prism without air bubbles or dry spots.

Clean the instrument with a soft cloth after each use, keep the refractometer dry and clean, which will keep the instrument accurate and durable. Do not put the entire instrument into water to wash, this may lead it to be foggy or rusty inside.

Please do not loose any connection part, and don’t dropping, colliding, shaking the instrument intensely.

Calibrate with distilled water and use. Based on testing several premium DEF fluids it seems to be accurate. Not difficult to use; it is just something most people have not had any experience with using. Glad I bought it and recommend this device.

I used this tool to test and identify counterfit / defective DEF that I bought from Wallmart. Yes, bad DEF is actually a thing. I wish I had known that before the $845 dealer repair bill, and that I had bought this tool and tested the DEF. My loss - your gain.

I've been using these on batteries all my career so I know if calibrated properly they are accurate. this one read right on 32.5 just like it is supposed to. The floating disk thing I bought didn't read at all. So for a couple of bucks more you can have something accurate. I'll be checking the calibration as soon as I can get some distilled water.

Did you ever wonder if the def you are using is any good? This is amazing!!! We buy our def for our f350 diesel engine in bulk. We had an issue with out exhaust system so we started wondering what if...this little tool is right on the ball.

It was calibrated correctly when I tried it, it works great and a good value for the $. No more searching for the shop provided one anymore. I like knowing my own is accurate and easy to find.
