This 55mm crown or Snap-On light Blue cap is the industry standard cap for 3 and 5 gallon water bottles. Its standard integrated cup seals both the interior and exterior neck of the bottle. Release tab on the outer edge makes removing the cap a breeze. The cap fits both glass and plastic 3 and 5 gallon bottles with a \"crown\" or \"Snap-On\" top. For reference, outside dimension for the bottle opening would be 2. 165 inches. If you currently have a snap cap for the bottle the outside dimension of that cap is about 2. 75 inches. We bought these hoping that we could use them in transporting and storing our bottles that we fill up at the local grocery store. We had been buying bottles of water from a local purified water retailer for about $7 per 5 Gal. bottle plus a $7 deposit (which you only pay once, as the cost transfers to each trade new in), but we decided that there had to be a better way. As if by some miracle, we noted not 24 hrs after this decision that tucked into the back corner of our local store, there was a water refiling station. Upon further investigation, we found that the purified water that it dispenses is purified in the same manner as the water that we had up to most recently been purchasing. All at the low cost of $0.39 a gallon. Now if my arithmetic is up to snuff (and I do believe that it is), each bottle we refill, instead of purchasing, saves us more than $5 each. This, I believe, is a no-brainer.The store even had the type of replacement cap that had a puncture hole on the top, right beneath a sticker - exactly the same as the caps we are used to seeing on the bottles, coming from the bottling facility. So we bought some of these, refilled, and proceeded to check-out with two newly refilled bottles and a plan. One week later, the replacement caps are nowhere to be found. The store sold out of them, and have no plans to stock them again. Now we are faced with the challenge of how to get water bottles refilled and transported. And then I find these beauties. Knowing that water bottles sit upright in our water cooler, and we really do not rely on the puncture seal of the other type of bottle cap, The Dew Cap Replacement would only need to be secure enough for transportation a few city blocks in the back of the car (or in a wagon in the nice months). So far these have been up-to-snuff. They snapped on to the water bottles securely and surely; and while I cannot attest to transporting or storing the water bottles on their sides as I store and transport the bottles upright, I can say that on one instance, a bottle fell to it's side while loading and the cap stayed securely in place and not a drop of water was spilt. Now, I do not know if I will ever use all 6 of these, but the price was right to make a future investment - for "just in case".

These caps are excellent! They stay on our water bottle perfectly & very secure. They are so secure they can be a little hard to get off but I don't mind as I know they won't bust open in the car. Be sure to measure your bottles as these do not fit all.

everyone asks it they are water tight, no they are not. they leak a few drips as I carry the 5 gallon bottle by the handle from the car to the house, no big deal but not water tight. they are however incredibly difficult to remove as the fit is very tight. they server the purpose and stop spills or sloshing while transporting from the store to home. Could use a larger and thicker thumb tab to aide in removal. I'm a big guy and work on cars all the time and have large fairly strong hands and I can't get these off the bottle with out using a tool, best I've found so far is the handle of a table knife.

It's a good fit for primo 5 gallon water jugs but it's very hard to remove from bottle and leaking drops as well while carrying bottle.

We use all of these covering (for years, I might add) our six 5-gallon plastic water carboys. We store a little supply of water we distill. I tell you, it's nice knowing they've got good lids on them. We started storing our distilled water with plastic film, aluminum foil and a nylon zip-tie sealing them up - then we found these. They work like a champ! I hear tell that on their side, the carboys may (very) slowly leak a little water so just keep them standing upright. We, however, have seen no leakage when we lay them down (but we still stand them up).

The caps come without a very inexpensive 1/16" thick polyurethane (PE) foam seal that is standard in the cap on every 5 gal bottle of water that is sold in the world. Without the PE seal, the caps are not watertight or airtight, which allows the water to seep out and the bugs to sneak in. If a sheet of the PE form could be purchased -- problem solved -- but can't be purchased anywhere on the worldwide web in anything but bulk sales, at least I wasn't able to find it. The solution is to remove the PE seals from used 5 gal bottle caps and trim to fit the dew caps. Once the 0.0001 cent PE seal is fitted in the dew cap, the cap makes a perfect airtight/watertight fit and the review rating goes from one star to 4.9999 stars. Would have been 5 stars, but had to subtract the cost of the used 0.0001 cent PE seal.

Once installed on bottle, almost impossible to remove.

I will be using these lids to save money. Instead of exchanging empty bottles for full ones, I can take these bottles to the refill station at my local big box store and refill them for pennies on the dollar. Others have noted that the lids are tight. I guess that's true, but not too tight to remove. They are tight enough to stay in place from the store to my home. And they are certainly tight enough to stay on while stored upright. But when I'm ready to install the bottle, I'll put a different cap on it, one that works with the probe. I also used to be able to load these bottles with no cap at all. Maybe it's time to test that skill again.
