I like to do some hand tool woodworking and I use this as a "cheat" to save myself hassle and energy with rough dimensioning. You really should use some earbuds or ear protection with it, and probably a dust mask (although I don't), but otherwise, it is great. Just like with hand planes, I add a squiggle or two of paraffin wax to the sole to make it slide more smoothly. This is the first time I have used a battery powered hand planer. It is so much nicer and safer than a corded power planer. Fair price, great quality, nice features, nice balance, and a 5 AH battery goes a long way. Highly recommended.

Very easy to use and it does what you need. The only thing I would do again is not allow Amazon to ship it to me in its box. Without the extra padding and with people moving the package seeing what it is, it was not handled nicely. I had to replace two parts right out of the package.

It works very well and in the area where I could use it, it would absolutely great. However, it's a lot bigger than I expected and a lot heavier (even without a battery), so it was awkward or even impossible to use in some areas where I didn't have enough room (had to do some fence adjustments for lights). That said, this thing is a keeper -- always wanted one and I'm not disappointed with its quality.

Easy to setup and blade changes look easy enough. Depth adjustments are made easily with the adjustment knob. This item came pretty quickly. The only thing that disappointed in, is that this product didn't come with a dust bag or bag/vacuum adapter.

Came in the DeWalt box. Out of the box performance. After checking the blades, making sure they were installed correctly, I set my initial depth of cut, popped a battery in and man was impressed! Smooth operation. Comes with a guide and the proper wrench for changing blades. I have a large tote and a wall organizer full of DeWalt tools and happy to have this onboard(pun intended).

I used this to plane level some areas of a deck substructure and previously to shape some inserts during its renovation. It did both jobs very well. It cannot perform like a full table planer, but that is an unreasonable ask - it is great for what it is. In combination with a belt and/or orbital sander this is a good shaping tool as part of your fine or rough carpentry arsenal.I did hit a screw at one point and nicked the blade so thereafter it left a small stripe as I planed, but that is my bad not the machines. I only mention it as this slip pointed out that the blades are not a standard size. They are long narrow strips with no fastening holes, rather they clamp in to the rotor (there is a place to store two spares - that don't come with it - in the handle). The correct blades are available on amazon.ca as "DeWalt Genuine OEM Replacement Carbide Blade # 273794".I had no problem with my 5 Ah battery running out during several hours of use on a couple of occasions, but it wasn't running all of the time either.
