The Firm (rigid) backing pad is ideal for demanding applications that require more pressure when grinding. These are suitable for high stock removal such as chamfering, beveling, and thick weld blending. The Medium (semi-rigid) backing pad is suitable for applications that need flexibility such as weld blending, burr and oxidation removal, and finishing.

Nut Sheard off first try. Sold as a DeWalt product, was not deep enough threads for both my DeWalt grinders (2 different models). Was barely enough thread on the nut to get the thread to catch to hold the pad and sanding disc, and the nut made of cheap aluminum sheared right off the first moment I tried to use it. I love all my DeWalt tools but they need to fix this! Looking for a better pad from another company.
